Session 65: go to the centre
General Summary
After making their way back to the Bodak cavern the heroes dawdled while Brimble Knackles prepared a Detect Magic spell. Before he could finish, however, swarms of spiders streamed into the chamber, followed closely by a Giant Spider and then a Drider. The heroes were victorious, but there are many openings to the Underdark in the The Barrier Peaks, so perhaps Lloth's cast-offs could be expected.
Circumnavigating the centre of the Greater Cavens, the party happened upon a Svirfneblin corpse in a corridor, a thief perhaps, only a week or two dead, and he grasped a single Sending Stone in his gray hand. Who has the other, and why was this underdark gnome so recently traversing the caverns?
After more wanderings another cave entered was strangley lit by braziers. A central altar commanded attention and upon it rested a book bound in black leather. When Jolee Bindo approached and touch the tome, it spun open, blown by a false wind, and a jagged tear in reality cracked in the air above the altar. As they looked into the planar tear upon the hells, chasme demon insects, flew out and attacked. Their dronig laid low both Brimble and Jolee, but Mi'tsuru'gi and Rivine fought on and slew the fiends. Rivine quickly closed the open book with her mighty strength and the portal to the hells slapped shut. Then only by a stab with his dagger was Mitsu able to wake Jolee and Brimble. The book now lay on the cave floor and the heroes retreated and readied their final assault on the centre.
