Session 63: Libre Mortis is no more

General Summary

The bodak lair behind them, the companions planned their assault on the troglodyte lair. They convinced the angel Stefan to take the lead, for secretly they needed the angel to die in order to destroy the Libre Mortis (see Session 54: Interview with a Fiend, part deux). Troglodyte foes dislodged from their cavern crevices and cracks and attacked Rivine and Jolee Bindo who accompanied Stefan while Brimble Knackles and Mi'tsuru'gi fired into the warren. Toward battle's end, Brimble cast fireballs into the chamber, missing his companions, but killing the last trogs and the angel as well.   The companions gathered around Stefan as his luminous blue blood spilled from wounds. Mitsu slammed his dagger into the chest of the angel, gashing a wound as Brimble laid the book into the flowing blood. Instantly, the book writhed as if a living thing and Brimble screamed as pychic pain lashed through him. The other companions scrabled from the angel and evil book for the air in the caverns rushed toward the tome as if it was sucking the very reality from the place. The book exploded with a deep roar, blowing back the companions and momentarily blinding a few. The Libre Mortis was no more. And now the hard work in Iggwilv's domain begins.   The companions wound their way through the Greater Caverns, probing the tunnels, and more than once encountering the doors to the central chamber with their warnings of death. They learned of teleport locations and encountered a few denizens of this liminal place. They found a dead dwarf adventurer who had seemingly wandered the caverns with a note, simply stating: "I believe every door must be opened, for that Brelid spake. " They asceneding to the upper caverns in a bid to save Fandle. Casting Flesh to Stone from a remmebered scroll, the gnome emerged from his basalt prison, and crumpled to the ground. The transition was too much for the earthy demi-human and he died.   The party last entered a giant cavern with stalactites and stalagmites joining roof to floor. Towers of flowstone also dotted the base of the cavern. An exit dimly seen on the far side drew the party across and into the trap of waiting Barlgura. The ape-demons swung down from stalactites and leapt from rock tops. An entagle spell cast by the demons trapped some party members, but this, nor the demons' invisibility, won the day, as arrows, spells, barbarian rage, and a martial staff drove them from this plane.
