Session 62: Send Me an Angel -- Right Now!

General Summary

The companions tended many wounds after their battle with the dao and her earth elementals. The supmtuous Kettite decore had reverted to tired and worn chests, carpets, and coloured tin baubles. Still, the place seemed good as any to rest. With Brimble Knackles's Leomund's Tiny Hut and Fandle's Wall of Stone, they were safe for a time.   After a night's rest, the companions explored adjacent caverns and were immediately confronted with a monstrosity of multiple parts. Rivine and Jolee Bindo ran into the lair of the Gorgimera and joined the three-headed beast in battle, while the others hurled attacks from the corridor. The dragon head of the creature blew fire, but the combatants doged aside. Soon however, the gorgon head exhaled its petrifying breath. Both Jolee and Fandle were turned to stone.   Enraged, Rivine and the others focused their fight and slew the abomination. But now the three remaining despaired, for their friends were immovable. The three wandered about the cavern, thinking on the problem. While doing so, Rivine discovered a passageway and stairs down, hidden by a pile of boulders. One boulder was hollow and breaking it open they found a tablet with stanzas of import. After reading these clues the glowing script dissappeared. Brimble also sent his Arcane Eye down the flight and explored an imaginaby deep and twisting set of caverns below.   A decision had been made in the gorgimera's lair: Brimble would summon the angel and they would ask the heavenly being to free thier friends and aid them in the caverns. This summoning is part of a pact between the companions and the fiend Goresh Kar. A pact necesary to rid Oerth of the Libre Mortis (see Session 54: Interview with a Fiend, part deux).   Brimble read the scroll given him by the fiend and from a shimmering blue disk in the air, the angel Stefan appeared. Apparently unware of the pact, the angel agreed to accompany the companions for one hour. The angel was only able to release Jolee from her bounds of stone. Fandle was left to decorate the cave.   The companions and their guardian angel descended to the lower caverns, deep, deep, beneath the mountain. The caverns and passageways oppressed with a mile of stone between them and the sky   One wide corridor was stopped by massive iron doors, 9' wide and 20' high, with crabbed tracery, monstrous heads, and metal scrollwork upon which was scribed:
Iggwilv's treasure rests within
her curse on any who disturb it
seek no further to steal it, nor
to free she who is prisoned here,
for a fate worse than death is
sure to come to those fools who
violate this circumscribed place
The doors opened when the party put their combined might to them and revealed a corridor of red marble beyond, at the end of which were portals bound with sliver. Rivine, Brimble and Stefan moved down the corridor, their skin tingling with magic. As Brimble pulled upon the door ring, a nova blinded those in the corridor and the gnome, elf, and angel were gone. The outer doors had slammed shut and Jolee and Mitsu pondered their solidity. After a few moments they were able to reopen the doors and made their way down the corridor. Jolee pulled upon silver door ring and they were gone.   Mitsu and Jolee found themselves in a square cavern, each wall piereced by an exit corridor. Upon the ground was a chalked message pointing to one of the exits. The pair followed it and quickly ran into their companions. All had been teleported to the square cavern and in the intervening moments, Brimble, Rivine, and Stefan had found a horrid cave, its walls a facade of limed corpses with the stench of troglodyte coming from caverns beyond.   The companions reunited, moved into the corpse cave and as they stole across the floor, haunted undead emerged from the walls with stares of death and raking claws. These two bodaks were quickly dispatched by Mitsu's missles. To be safe, Brimble polymorphed into a dinosaur, and they all moved toward the smell of trogs. Thirty passes of the hand remained for Stefan.
