Personal history
Golbun started life as one of many hobgoblins born to a now forgotten legion. He had attained the rank of Captain before he began uniting the goblinoids of Karpash by force, the first to attempt such a thing since the founding of the Solare order. With but a few groups outside of his command he began taking concubines and attempting to solidify his rule into a hereditary dictatorship. One of his concubines however, was Mika and as he tried to claim her he was hit with a burst of magical fire, scorching much of his body. His face in particular was horribly disfigured, a massive blow to his honor. In order to hide this he began to don a skull helmet at nearly all times. He had any that had seen his burned face, including all of his concubines and several of his captains killed. He continued to gather strength for several years until he hit the limits of his ability and manpower. Fortuitously he was approached by an unlikely pair of benefactors. One was a dark power forgotten by most mortals, known by the names of Malar and Wendigo, and the other was Shiori, an aid to King Yoruko of Genos. Malar promised him personal power, giving him the secret of Gulthias vampirism in exchange for loyalty and destruction. Shiori's offer was of undead minions and transmuted equipment allowing his armies to be bolstered, in exchange for a campaign against the Solare Order and Blackmire. It was this task that would be his undoing as running counter to his aims were Sora, Mika, and Maria and through their efforts his captains, his allies, and himself were killed.

Mental Trauma
Being harmed by Mika convinced Golbun that a powerful caster in his bloodline would secure his lineage forever. He also abandoned tradition to gather more power since he considered Mika's attack on him a failure of Maglubiyet to protect him.
