The Land of Tales

The Land of Tales is a world of fantasy where every person has a tale to tell, a lesson to share, or a mystery to uncover. Fairy tales and fables both popular and obscure are weaved through every part of this world. Players beware though, the tales are twisted and familiar characters may behave in unexpected ways. Utilizing meta-knowledge of fairy tales is encouraged, but it may lead a character astray.

Players begin by portraying a small band of dragon worshiping cultists eager to honor the great sorceress, Maleficent, by returning her to her impressive dragon form. Powerful magic trapped her away in another plane of existence and only powerful and ancient magic can return her. However, with the capital city of Arendelle under a dreadful anti-magic curse, using magic has become a feat in itself. An ancient tome holds the key, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the first party of cultists failed to complete the ritual. Thus, the players are tasked with guiding their cultists to recover the tome and complete the ritual.

Following the culmination of the cultists' endeavors, players' characters are released into the wondrous world of the Land of Tales. There they may strive to bring justice or chaos to the land, amass great wealth and unique treasures or rise in power and affluence. Should characters remain steadfast, leave no corner of the land unexplored, no princess unsecured, nor dragon free to roam, they may one day see themselves become the ultimate heroes...or villains.

Names of heroes, villains, locations, and treasures are recognizable from many Grimm Fairy Tales as well as Disney movies and the popular TV show Once Upon a Time and I do not claim to have created them myself. The Land of Tales merely takes these familiar fairy tale and fable icons and creates a new story within a fantasy world for players to explore and untangle. Possible encounters include fighting alongside Robin Hood to bring justice to the land, bartering with Captain Hook for passage aboard his vessel, and playing a lively game of croquet with the Queen of Hearts. I hope players will enjoy interacting with their favorite fairy tale heroes (and villains!) as much as I have enjoyed creating the fantastical fairy-tale world, the Land of Tales.
