Jerimiah of Buttertown

The legend of Jeremiah of Buttertown can be dated all the way back to the fourth cycle according to the scholars of The Hive Tomes. A simple man who let Buttertowns descent into a radicalised, violent cult pass him. Instead he spent his evenings drinking copious amounts of red wine under a Lilac tree just outside of town. One day the angry town was chasing a boy who refused to join in on the slurring of an orc who had arrived in the pub that day, the boy sped past Jeremiah who was sitting happily drunk under his Lilac tree. The crowd eventually followed with their weapons and torches raised. They asked Jeremiah which direction the boy had run in. Jeremiah responded that he did not know the direction as up was south and down was east to him this late in the afternoon. The crowd grew restless until the innkeeper piped up that Jeremiah was just off his rocker drunk again, and that if he knew he would have told them. Jeremiah was left to his drink as the crowd dispersed. After a while, the boy came out of his hiding place in the Lilac tree above Jeremiah and thanked him for his help. Jeremiah winked at the boy before going back to his wine. A decade later and the town had continued to grow worse, but every day, after tending to his fields Jeremiah sat under his Lilac tree, avoiding the rest of town. The boy who had escaped had grown up and become a noble knight, he returned to the town that had tried to kill him with an army by his side. One of the generals approached drunk Jeremiah on their way into town with his sword raised. Just as he was about to threaten him, the boy raised a hand. He proclaimed that this man, Jeremiah was good of heart. He told the story of the day he ran from town and explained that Jeremiah worked his field and drank his wine away from town and caused no harm. Jeremiah shook the Knight by the hand, pleased to see how grown up and strong the boy had become. They exchanged kind words before the army moved on. The knight and his army were attacked when they entered the town but their expertise and armour were no match for the villager's shoddy swords and poor training. Over the following years the knight and his men rebuilt the town and invited those of good heart and kind soul to come and make it their home. Jeremiah still drank under his Lilac tree but some days he joined the Knight for a drink in the local pub and they shared stories from days gone by and days to come. Eventually, Jeremiah succumbed to old age, he died and was buried underneath his Lilac tree. At Jeremiah's funeral, the Knight vowed that everybody across Ezura shall know of his old friend. Because of this, Jeremiah of Buttertown is celebrated far and wide across Ezura and the hunt for the spot where Jeremiah is buried is still looked for today. Whilst most are sure he is fictitious you'll often see citizens stop to take a break and drink whenever they come across a Lilac tree, in honour of good old Jeremiah of Buttertown.
