Thori - God of War
RANK: The Nine
SYMBOL: Two Clashing Hammers
FAMILY: Larsan (Wife), Querin (Son), Bhul (Son), Cyric (Son), Shar (Son)
DEPICTION:
A lean, tall-ish dwarf with sparkling green eyes and ruddy skin. His head is shaved and his deep brown beard untamed. He wields two enormous hammers, and has a face of savage joy.
MORTAL LIFE:
In the Kin-Wars of the Genesis Era, one Kin was feared above all else: the Morigak. They had no desire to rule over the other Kin, but merely wished to show their strength by besting them in battle. Their leader during this turbulent period was Thori, a great warrior who loved combat over everything else. Wielding two great-hammers that would have been two handed weapons for any other dwarf, he would charge through the battlefield, cleaving aside foes as he went. When Yurgen came to him with the offer of a peaceful union, he surprised everyone by agreeing, on the condition that he could lead the armies of the combined Kin against the other races. When the other Kin planned to murder Yurgen, Thori refused - assassination was a coward's game. But his Kin rebelled, and Thori gave up the throne in anger. In truth, he had never liked ruling, and though now an old man, he took to wandering Clock in disguise, selling his now rusted hammers as a mercenary. On his wanderings he came across Larsan, now an old elf, and the pair fell in love (much to the distaste of her sister Lorn). Larsan would follow Thori and watch his battles, taking in the screams of pain with hungry joy. Thori died as he always wanted to at a ripe old age, surrounded by enemies and swinging his trusty hammers. Though none of his assailants knew they had killed one of the most feared warriors ever to walk the material plane, they remembered his gleeful final expression until the end of their days.
WORSHIP:
Clerics of Thori are focussed on one thing: perfecting the art of war. Most major cities, especially those with garrisons, house a temple of Thori, and most of the strongest armies in Clock have a follower of the God of War at their head. Only the elves are less open in their worship of Thori, but still pray to him, knowing how fierce his temper can be and how quickly it can change the course of a conflict. To become an official priest of Thori you are made to fight your other initiates - it is not about winning, but more about the glory and honour you fight with.
