Units of measurement

[The People tend not to measure things much, but when they do, they rely on comparisons to the size of the body. Something can be the size of one's palm, as long as the joint of one's thumb or as heavy as a man can lift, for instance.    Units of length:
  • a man's fathom = a man's arms outstretched, roughly 165-170cm
  • a thumb joint = roughly 2-2.5 cm
  • a hand's breadth = roughly 8-10 cm
Units of weight:
  • a full reindeer's bladder = roughly 600g
  • heavy as a man can lift = varies from person to person
  • one feather = insignificant weight, for very light things
  • half a blueberry = used to lightly mock someone's strength, example: "this weighs only half a blueberry, why can't you carry it, eh?"
The Reid use similar units of measurement although their fathom is longer because they are taller.
