Dragonborn
Dragonborns were the result of the attempts of ancient chromatic dragons to create their own humanoid servants. However, they made the mistake of giving these servants human-like intelligence, which allowed for them to realize that they could simply leave and make their own lives. The dragons were angry that their servants had disappeared, and outright furious that they had formed their own civilization. They attacked, but were met with the retaliation of the chromatic dragonborns with the backing of the metallic dragons and their own metallic dragonborns. The chromatic dragons were eventually banished to Titanus, a gigantic frozen planet. However, after this was done, the dragonborns turned on the metallic dragons, seeing them as no better than the chromatic dragons. The metallic dragons, not wishing for any more conflict, retreated to the Feywild, where they have now resided for about 250,000 eoks.
Dragonborns, like their dragon relatives, are capable of unleashing a breath attack, the element of which depends on their draconic ancestry, though the size and power of this attack isn't as great due to the smaller size of dragonborns.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Dragonborns are much like humans, being a bipedal race with two legs and two arms, as well as no tail or wings. However, they look very much like their draconic ancestors, with the scales and head of a dragon, as well as similar limb structure.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dragonborns, while humanoid, are still part of the dragonoid family, which is within the reptile class on the evolutionary family tree. Therefore, like dragons, dragonborns lay eggs, which then must be kept at the right temperature for ten months, after which the egg hatches.
Growth Rate & Stages
A newly hatched dragonborn is much smaller than a human baby. However, it is also more developed, with teeth, scales, working senses and a hardened skeleton. Dragonborns also grow very quickly, reaching adolescence at 5 eoks, and adulthood at 7 1/2 eoks
Ecology and Habitats
The environments a dragonborn is comfortable with vary depending on the type of dragonborn, though they all seem comfortable on Hupen, as they have formed a thriving empire there.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Dragonborns are carnivorous, and cannot survive on a vegetarian diet. Being a civilized species, they do build food-storing structures to keep their food from spoiling, often underground where it's colder.
Biological Cycle
Dragonborns are relatively unaffected by the seasons, and don't age as noticeably as humans, though they have roughly the same average lifespan.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Dragonborns have very similar senses to humans, though the same colors will look different between the eyes of a dragonborn and the eyes of a human. Also, sounds are perceived very differently, due to humans having ears and dragonborns having earholes. Nevertheless, dragonborn senses are neither superior nor inferior to those of humans.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Dragonborns have no gender restrictions on names, though some names are more popular for one than the other. When two dragonborns get married, both partners change their last name to a hyphenated extension which is their partner's surname followed by their own. A dragonborn child has this same hyphenated last name until they come of age, at which point they choose one of the two surnames. The exception is with the royal family, as the children of the empress always have the last name of their mother.
Major Organizations
Drenora: Drenora is an empire dominated by dragonborns which takes up almost the entire continent of Hupen. Other than this, dragonborns are not very common.
Scientific Name
Draco Sapiens
Conservation Status
Dragonborns are a civilized race, and require no protection.
