Sequin (ethnicity)

The people of Sceoque (Country) are tanned in complexion and commonly have black or auburn hair. Males average 5'10" and Females 5'4". Brown is the dominant hair color with green as a secondary coloration. There is a very small percentage of the population who have purple eyes: a coveted trait. Those who possess these eyes can expect to be elevated in society, regardless of their other qualifications. Heterochromia (the condition of having 2 different eye colors) is more common in Sceoque (Nation) than anywhere else in the Klasbial Archipelago. This is thought to be due to the higher number of twins causing increase chimerism (when 2 or more fetuses develop as a single organism), but this may not be the case.

Major language groups and dialects

Sequins can speak Common (Language) and are taught to read and write by their parents.

Common Dress code

Men always wear trousers and tunics where women will wear knee-high skirts or dresses unless travelling. Women's boots are often ankle cut and men's are usually taller, coming not far from the knee. Toplessness outside of the home is frowned upon in both genders and anyone seen without any covering on their lower bodies are seen as obscene. Willow fronds are woven into the hair of women and beards of men to display that they are in a relationship. Other materials and leaves are used to represent allegiance to particular spirits.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Every large town has a harvest festival in the late fall, to celebrate the spirits of edible plants and animals. There is a section of every festival reserved for those who have turned 18 in the past year and have received their coming of age gifts. This gives them an opportunity to mingle and meet others of the same age.

Coming of Age Rites

On a Sequin's 18th birthday, they will be gifted an object by their family based on their gender. Males receive a ring with the family emblem to be used for signing official documents. Females are given a porcelain doll. Sometimes these dolls bear the standard of the females family or may even be made in her likeness, but this is not always the case.

Beauty Ideals

Short and stout is seen as the ideal body type for Sequin females, whereas broad shoulders and well groomed and braided beards are seen as attractive for men. Sequin society puts a lot of emphasis on the eyes. Preferences in this regard differ between and within groups, but it is said that a mate is as much selected by their eyes as their personalities.

Relationship Ideals

When a couple has children, they take on the father's family name and symbols. Though heterosexuality is certainly the more prominent sexuality, no consensual relationship is obscene or taboo, excepting bestiality and statutory rape. This has lead to a larger half-elven population in the region of Sceoque (Country). The people of the area also have an affinity for twins.
