Sun Hawk

The Sun Hawk is a large bird of prey that is revered across all of Enxe as a symbol of strength and of the country as a whole. Long associated with the king god 'Akhar', the sun hawk has been the traditional symbol of the Enxetite monarchy for dozens of dynasties. Even the modern Ntiklonen dynasty has adopted the sun hawk as one of the Royal symbols, such is the strong association among the Enxetites. During the War for Liberation and the rebellious period before it, the sun hawk motif was used by rebel forces as their symbol against the Hursan government, which used the Hursan War Horse as their symbol of power.   The sun hawk is called such due to it being most often seen in the noon day sun, soaring on the hot drafts of air seeking prey. The bird tends to have a color pallet ranging from dark or light browns up to dull yellows and golds. The bird is a carnivore with a preference for fish but also hunts land prey such as 'rabbits, young deer and similar'. The sun hawk can be tamed, usually from the egg on but skilled falconers can slowly build a relationship with wild sun hawks. A falconer who truly tames a wild sun hawk is highly regarded across Enxetite society. Tamed sun hawks are often kept for hunting support as well as being trained to seek out travelers lost in the wilds around the country. It is tradition for each Royal family member to be taught falconry with sun hawks as they mature to strengthen their connection to the land and the gods.   The Royal Standard features a sun hawk prominently and sun hawk motifs have flourished across the Kingdom as the years have progressed. It is a crime to kill a sun hawk. If sun hawks are proving a threat to livestock or pets, one must bring up the issue to the local governor to ensure the safe relocation of the hawks.
