Sign Speech

Known as kmu-savur in Navno, sign speech is the name given to the sign language used in the Kingdom. It is a system of using gestures to transmit information akin to a language. It is primarily used by elements of the Royal government under the auspices of the King to relay important information in a way that cannot be understood by outsiders, be they citizens of the Kingdom or foreign agents.   Sign speech was first developed as a way for the Disciples, Prophet and select agents to discuss their next plans against the Sorceress when they wanted to be absolutely sure that no information could get back to her. This proved invaluable as they would discuss plans with various aids that was only partially true, then see if said information made its way to the Sorceress in the upcoming operation. Then they could work to figure out who was the traitor leaking information out. Following the end of the war, sign speech was kept as a method to securely send information out from the King or his most trusted agents to others around the Kingdom. The Royal Order of the Serpent is one of the largest users of sign-speech, due to the sensitivity of their work against the Sorceress.   Officially, there is only one "dialect" of sign speech - the one used by the Royal Order is a showcase of this version. In practice, there are a few other "dialects". The Royal Family has there own version of sign speech for communicating amongst themselves and individual agents often have their own signs for specific terms or concepts. There has been talk of formalizing a different sign speech for use among the deaf or mute. Currently, it is typical for such individuals to use simple gestures or a system to essentially finger spell.
