Leukos Jelly (Lew-kos)

Leukos is a ruby colored jelly that is extracted from the Kmeser tree. Leukos has different uses depending on its state. If it is raw and unrefined, it is highly poisonous. Infamously, raw Leukos has been a known assassin's tool in killing a target. Raw Leukos is not instantly lethal though, it typically takes 20 days for it to kill someone after roughly three handfuls have been rubbed or put on someone. If ingested, the time is cut down to just under a week. Due to its toxic quality, Leukos is a highly controlled substance by Royal Edict and those who handle the substance must wear specially designed protective gear to avoid directly touching the jelly.   The other state is the purified and refined Leukos jelly, typically called some variant of "Pure or Refined Leukos". This state is achieved by steadily fermenting and near boiling the raw jelly over the course of a month or s (depending on how much raw Leukos is being refined). This process breaks down the poisons in the jelly and renders it safe to touch and use. Strangely, the refined Leukos can act as a potent magic enhancer when ingested or worked into a crystalline state and used as a focusing tool. The refined Leukos can also be burned as a fuel source, which renders flames far hotter than what can be made via charcoal or other fuel sources known. All combined, this makes the Kmeser plant, the only source of Leukos, highly valuable. The plant's nature as a partial parasite to other trees make it difficult to cultivate in large amounts, however, which in turn limits the amount of Leukos that can be gathered. The majority of Leukos is gathered in small batches by dedicated Kmeser-seekers who are charged by the Royal government in locating Kmeser sites and securing them for safe extraction.

I love the poisonous jelly! The pronunciation guide is also extremely useful. I can definitely see why assassins value it so much because it's slow acting and easier to be far far away once the person does die. I also really like that the jelly has multiple uses which adds to why it's so valuable to many people. Where geographically does the Kmeser tree grow? If I wanted to get some jelly, how would I go about extracting it from the plant? Do Kmeser seekers have any protective equipment or protocols for extracting Leukos jelly? This is definitely a cool and unique idea!
