Kingdom Fiyek Ship

The most common form of travel for goods (barring simple land travel by pack animal) is by river ship. This is due to the mighty Fiyek, the great river that runs near the length of Enxe. Because of how important the Fiyek is (main source of water and food production), the majority of people live on the river. As such, traveling up and down the Fiyek is an easy way to move quickly from the deep interior up to the coast and back. The term 'Fiyek ship' is a catch-all for the myriad boats that travel up and down the Fiyek every day. While the speed of travel depends on the wind, current and direction one is traveling as well as the strength of the oar crew, one could travel comfortably from Skubak in the interior to the coast in at most a couple weeks at the slowest pace. Travel from the coast upriver tended to be much slower but still far quicker than overland travel.   There are four main uses for boats on the Fiyek: hauling cargo, fishing, military use and ceremonial transport. Cargo hauling is the most common alongside fishing, as it is both cheap and quick to take cargo up the river. Many villages supplement their diets with the plentiful fish that can be caught on the river. Military ships are predominantly those used to transport soldiers up and down the Fiyek, typically in response to calls for aid. The military uses swift Kegsos ships (literally runner ships) as messenger boats to relay information around the river (practice taken from the Royal government's use of messenger boats for the same purpose). There are also regular patrols by either local provincial soldiers or by the Royal Navy up and down the river to suppress piracy. Ceremonial use tends to fall towards the rituals of taking a body (most commonly a Monarch or Royal) from the coast to the Skubak region before being taken towards the resting grounds.
