Anubis, Son of Nephthys and Osiris, held the title GOD of DEATH, and was the sole ruler of the underworld (of his side of the Lost Lands). In the Time of Gods, he had no interest in sitting on the throne. He liked travelling the kingdom. Anubis found the Anpur in the southern mountains, who looked like him. He raised them out of the land of monsters to be a part of the Kingdom and to learn to live in harmony with humans, Estiri, and ptahmeu. The time of exodus was not hard for him, though he worried that the Anpur wouldn't be as accepted as the other three races in the kingdom because of their appearance.
For some time, he was good at his job, but with exodus, things changed.
Osiris after retiring from ruling the kingdom and coming back from the dead was bored after leaving the lands. He needed something to do and had some ideas on the underworld. Who's going to argue with his father, it's not like he wasn't doing a good job, but his mother complained that his father was driving her nuts in retirement and needed a hobby. Kind of annoying when your father wants to work things his way, but the people liked Osiris' way, so who was he to judge. This was fine by him, as it gave him free time (especially at night when the sunbarge is pulled through the underworld to battle Apep.
Anubis then had more specific duties:
- Guardian of the Scales to judge wether the heart of a man is worthy to ender the kigndom of the afterlife
- God of Embalming and Mummification - to make sure all is properly done so the parts of the soul go to the right place. You don't want errant pieces of soul hanging around.
- Guardian of Tombs. This was an important job, but he regrest failing the Khemitians as the Hyborians looted tombs in the Late Khemitian era. He suspected something in the land changed but didn't foresee that he powers were waning.
Today, Anubis is still being worshipped by the Anpur, but they want him to do EVERYTHING. Make the sun rise Anubis, make the rains and floods come Anubis, bless our warriors in battle Anubis.... Everything he didn't want to deal with when he walked the lands. He tries though.
