The Heartrender Elegy

Among the many medical practitioners striving to become the most famous and popular doctor who has ever lived, Dr Mul Pansa is one of the most prominent. A powerful tenor, his bardic skills have proven immensely powerful of curing even the most intractable of ailments, and frankly he clearly enjoys ensuring people know this.   His most famous and influential example of this was when he devised the counterpoint to the Shinsplitting Curse. A terrible villain named Dorak Heartrender plagued Harnash with a host of undead monstrosities and dangerous blood magic. Though he was eventually defeated, his final act was a curse that persisted after his death - the Shinsplitting Curse. As the name suggests, it was a brutal and incredibly painful experience that seemed to strike at random among the populace, and resisted all attempts to dispel or remove the curse.   Enter Dr Pansa. He strode into the surgical theatre of the Trecorvum Discward Infirmary one day, cape billowing dramatically behind him, and announced that he had found the cure for the Shinsplitting Curse.   The patient, an orc who worked a ferryboat, was wheeled in, crying in pain from the curse. Explaining to the onlooking doctors that he had unravelled the arcane underpinnings of the curse and composed a countermelody, he turned around and began to sing.   Mul's voice was famously powerful, but in this moment all those in attendance got to see the tenor in full force. As the song wove around the room, it began to echo strangely, and a second voice seemed to emerge from around the patient - the last breaths of Dorak Heartrender. The two voices seemed to clash in the air, though one was barely a whisper.   Ultimately, Mul Pansa's song - the Heartrender Elegy - won the day. It countered the curse completely, and soon the ferryorc was able to recuperate. Deemed a miracle cure, the Elegy was taught across the country, and now the Shinsplitting Curse, though it is still active and appears regularly, doesn't strike the same fear into the populace as any infirmary has someone who can cure it in minutes.
