Personal history
Born to a polynesian-asian couple, Leilani grew up in Hawai'i. She had a normal enough upbriging, often spending whole afternoons exploring places she wasn't supposed to go or wandering the neighborhood. She grew into a complete tomboy and athletics nut. She was average in school, exceptional at sports, and a normal girl.
When time came to move on to college, she chose the archaeology and culture department of her nearest branch of the Hawaiian Community College. Suddenly her interest in adventure and old things blossomed. She eventually took a year abroad, moving to France on a whim and interest in expanding her Archaelogical knowledge.
The French college had a program with the Louvre's archaelogy department. She jumped at the chance and the work with interest, but even being an unpaid assistant could not slake her thirst for knowledge. She began to make a habit of sneaking into place she couldn't. This habit would catch up with her and expose her to a completely different world.
One day, she was caught trespassing and given over to the police to be charged. Her inquisitiveness couldn't save her, she was at the mercy of a foreign system of law. But before she could even ask for her first phonecall, a lawyer arrived, unbidden and tightlipped.
Without speaking a shred of english to his 'client', the lawyer bargained for her freedom and guided her to a waiting car. Inside, an asian chaeffuer drove her to a french mansion where, out of her comfort zone, the girl from the US met her first magical creature. The elven lady of the manor.
The elven matron had helped the young lady out of her predicament as a sign of good faith. All she asked for assistance with a lost 'heirloom' of hers. Leilani agreed to try and track it down in her spare time. Unable to dive back into her studies till an inquiry was resolved, Leilani's 'side project' became her full-time obsession.
Strings, connections, sales, thefts. Leilani traced the relic's path throughout French museums and private estates, she broke into places and was invited into others. In all cases she searched and searched till the trail led to another country. She put together everything she could before bringing her findings to the Matron, expecting to be relieved of the hunt. Instead, the elf commended her and lent Leilani the services of her handmaiden and agent.
Her followed the trail of the artifact till, with it finally in hand, she realized it's dangerous magical nature. Smashing it, she boxed the pieces and refused to give them to the matron who had funded her search. But where leilani was worried she'd be in trouble, the elf saw in the girl a conscience and honor. She was instead offered a full time job.
Much like the Matron's handmaid, the elf and her husband were constantly on the look out for 'good help'. The Matron had an interest in the old, the antique, and Leilani could quite easily be their relic hunter. Accepting their patronage, Leilani returned to her studies, keeping an eye out for interesting relics, mysteries, and items in which to placate her new masters.
