Zephyrite

A rare mineral located in a remote corner of Alwaus, Zephyrite (or Crystalized Lightning) plays a special role in the ceremony and culture of the Stormbreak Islands, and is the family gemstone of The Stormking, Kjarr Valbrand.   While certainly a unique and beautiful crystal, the true value it offers is its exceptional performance as a magical implementation for spells concencing Blitzkrieg and Aerotheurge, making it a saught after material for both Operating Enchantment and The Collegiate Arcane.

Properties

Material Characteristics

A mesmerizing crystal of irredesent blue, Zephyrite seems to dance with a brilliant blue light when it is turned and spun. Often called "solid lightning" the stones are well-named, looking truly like blitzkrieg magic seal in solid form.

Geology & Geography

Found primarily in the Northland Wilds, the crystal is commonly found along the southern shores. Found primarily in the craigs and mountains, the crystal is difficult to find and even more difficult to extract, owing both to the remote nature and the hostile environment the crystal is found in.

History & Usage

Cultural Significance and Usage

A gemstone of particular esteem to the Valbrand family of The Stormbreak Islands, owing both to the family's proximity to the Northland Wilds and their cultural and familial affinity for "storms" and "lightning".   The gemstone's rarity means that the vast majority of stones in the market are either owned by Stormlord nobility or traded with Alvain or Kinderstarke connections the family has.

Industrial Use

The stone's primary usage is focused on its affinity with Blitzkreig and Aerotherge magic. Their natural ability to hold, and release stored electrical energy makes its a useful mineral in a variety of magical artifacts. Stormblades in particular are nearly always made with Zephyrite, and magical implements designed to manipulate air and electrical energies benefit greatly when their designs are based on Zephyrite as a conductive mineral.

Hazards

The crystals contain a natural electric charge and direct contact with the stones has been known to discharge small electric shocks at harmless, albeit painful, voltages.
