Session 2: Days 3-5

General Summary

Day 3:

After bringing Sedar Wildryst back to Braedon the magistrate, Elama Ramondo decides to have a celebration at Braedon's Brews, the local tavern. Valen Goldthicket picks up many more rumors and requests at the party.
  • Elama mentions that wolves have been attacking livestock, and wants Valen to go with Brida Wulffhart to hunt them. Brida seems reluctant.
  • Virtue Evenwood says that there seems to be more predators than just wolves attacking livestock. Some of the livestock have had their blood drained.
  • Neeva is surprised that Elama doesn't seem more concerned about the watchtower. It's certainly Neeva's priority, seeing as her husband was one of the confused guards that was guarding it when it burned.
  • Eldeth Firetamer pours them another drink and mentions that the next shipment of this particular beverage from Swamp's Edge Winery is late.
  • The local cleric, Ander Downbrook, asks if he could accompany them to the abandoned Temple of Ubium out by the lake, if they happen to be headed out that way.
  • Rimmor the town smith is missing.
  • The Drake family is also missing.

Day 4:

Valen sets out with Ander, Droop, and Sham Savroth and they travel 4 hexes 1623, 1622, 1621, 1620.

In hex 1621 Valen finds an abandoned farm house. Inside are 2 people on the floor, apparently paralyzed. There is a giant papery nest inside, as well. Valen, in an attempt to help, administers wyrmtongue petals to the 2 paralyzed people, but misremembers that wyrmtongue petals are actually poisonous and ends up killing them. In the bedroom of the farmhouse are 2 more bodies, who appear to have been stabbed. Valen then burns the nest and leaves.

In hex 1620 they find a brightly colored patchwork backpack, with the name Alea stitched on it. There is a trail through the grass heading east. It looks as though someone ditched the backpack to get away from something.

Day 5:

In hex 1619 they find the Temple of Ubium on the shore of a large lake, however some unsavory cultists have taken residence since Ander was last here. The cultists wear green robes and strange leathery shells on their back and are accompanied by several giant snapping turtles inside the temple. Inside they find evidence that the cultists have been feeding people to their snapping turtle companions and their god Sargarath. In the kitchen where the cultists are preparing their gruesome meal, Valen finds a recipe for a potion of swimming. They also find an egg in a closet and take it with them. Eventually they find some cells with one prisoner still alive. After freeing her, she gives them a turtle shell amulet that she swiped from one of the cultists. Valen can sense that the amulet has some sort of communication spell cast on it. In a large room with a giant pit filled with water in it they face off with the leader of the cultists. In the pit is a gargantuan snapping turtle, apparently the god Sargarath who the cultists worship. In his last act the cultist leader pulls a lever on the side of the pit and the water in the pit starts churning. Valen, now knowing the proper application of wyrmtongue petals, stuffs his mouth with them and kicks him into the pit. Sargarath is released into the lake by the pull of the lever, but not before eating the poisoned cultist.
