The Infinite Chasm

A lightless expanse of winding caverns and deep spirally tunnels, that loop endlessly in an inescapable swirling maze, ever moving, and ever changing in its complexity and direction. Ranging in size from closely carved furrows that twist and wind in impossible angles, to enormous cavern expanses, branching off to dozens of smaller tunnels and caves each with their own unique destination or doubled back loop. There is some light within this cold and dark realm, certain species of bioluminescent plants, fungi, and even creatures call this maddening labyrinth of caves home. The sounds of dozens of moving, clawing, and howling demons echo throughout the infinite catacombs of this world, any soul damned to this plain find themselves hopelessly and maddeningly wondering the many caverns, crevasses, and crawl spaces for even the faintest hint of light, or a way out of this labyrinthine hell. These caves and tunnels eventually converge upon a massive cavernous chamber at the very center of this swirling web, the chamber is filled with a mass of dark liquid, a subterranean lake at the centroid of a fiendish web of stone. One island rest at the center of this massive lake, and upon it grows a small grove of tree like fungi, which illuminate a small pool of dark blue liquid with their pale green fluorescent light. The pool is akin to the pools of the upper layers, it has a mirror like surface, that even when disturbed holds its reflective properties, above it floats a familiar obsidian obelisk, deeply carved in runes that radiate a cold azure blue light, which radiates with a cold intensity.

Geography

Deep winding tunnels, half collapsed, choking crawl spaces, and vast, bottomless ravines comprise the labyrinthine make up of this swirling web of a realm. The primary structure of this plane is a crisscrossing layer of outer tunnels, they are large, approximately 15 to 20 feet in diameter, with strange ribbings at on their walls that make it seem as if they were created by the tunneling of some massive beast. Connecting to these primary tunnels are several maze-like caves systems that intertwine with themselves and the outer tunnels, these caves are jagged and littered with loose rock piles and expansive ravines and gorges that plummet down into the eternal darkness below. Some caves are more akin to tight collapsed crawl spaces, where anything but the smallest of creatures would have to crawl hand and foot in order to traverse them successfully. These caves and tunnels connect to larger cavernous expanses located deeper down into the cold stone of this plane, these caverns act as way stations and places for population within the plane, as many demon cities and dark castles are built within their jagged, fungi covered expanses. At the deepest, most central part of this plane, is the largest of these caverns, it is a long dead caldera of sorts, and in it rests the Ocean of Madness, a massive subterranean lake that plunges to depths that would shatter the mind of even the most logical of mortal scholars, and waiting within these depths are creatures that shred the soul of any who laid eyes upon them. At the center of this massive lake is a small rocky island, upon which grows a small grove of tree like fungi that illuminate it with pale green florescent light, and at the center of this island lies the Way Pool of the plane, a small pool of dark liquid, its surface that of a dark mirror, above which floats an obsidian obelisk nearly identical to those of high layers.

Fauna & Flora

The caves, crawl spaces, and tunnels of this dark and cold plane are filled with the echo cries of those damned to wonder its endless mazes, and the snarled growls and howls of those creatures that hunt them. At the top of this predatory hierarchy is the Earth Eaters, massive worm creatures, with carapace hides lined with dull ribbed spines of bone, and at the front a gaping circular mouth lined with hundreds of razor sharp teeth it uses to consume the stone in front of it, they are what creates the ever changing and moving primary tunnels of the plane. Living off of the scraps that are left behind by the great worms are the next denizen of this layer, a race of sentient fungi that lives in small fungal forests that grow within the different caverns of the realm, they cultivate these fungi which they see as half kin, these fungi provide light and food for them and are known to feed off of the corpses of both demons and the damned. But the true rulers and wardens of this labyrinthine plane are the many demons that dwell and hunt here, they are the servants of The Corruptor and are themselves mad without hope of reaching sanity every again.
