The Secrets of Beyonfar

Beyonfar by its vary nature is full of wonders. Most of it is still a wilderness that has only been tamed in parts.

Any of its ancient races and other species of animals and plants would be quite alien to most Alvenites.

The Races of Beyonfar

- The Staynes

In the high valleys of The Great Towers Range, the The Dew Caves are the homes of the civilization of The Encrors, The Staynes.
The Staynes are an ancient race of humanoids who have inhabited the Alven continent for millennia.

Their customs and religion affect every part of their society and strictly adhered to. Not many Staynes stray out of their homeland.
Few Staynes decide to leave the safety of the Caves and wander the length of the continent. If they do, they are sure to cause a sensation among humans with their blue skins, tattoos, white hair, and tall stature.
The Staynes can manipulate the magic of the world much better than humans, and for that, there are feared by most clansmen.

- The Louves

Further to the west, the Louves have settled down after moving from The Southern Kingdoms 500 years ago. They are also quite different in physiognomy to other humans.

Over millennia, their race has become taller and broader than the Alvenites. Their skin is usually very pale and their hair dyed black or red.

If they do not disguise themselves, they also stand out in a crowd. However, like the Staynes, they do not freely leave their homelands.

Young Louves have been known to leave The Elders' Caverns to find their fortune in Alven. Due to their physiognomy, they make excellent warriors and bodyguards. As such, they are often tempted by the martial life either in all kind of militias and even sometimes The Arkivon.

It has been known for some famous Louves to become affiliated to a clan and become a clansman, especially if they decide to marry within that same clan.

That being said, the Louves' faith in their god is not easily put aside. The Louves believe in the god Belen exclusively and take their religion very seriously.

The organization within the tribes is also very different from the clans' hierarchy and honor code around the Thanes.

- The Creatures of Midlake: the Dark Kins

In the inner sea of Midlake, lives another type of , known as The Dark Kins. This is the name that the Selkes have given to their darker skin cousins. Like the Selkes, their existence is not known to humans.

Human settlements around the sea are aware of 'monsters' roaming the depths of Midlake but do not know that another sentient species exist in the water.
The Kins have a very different society from The Selkes - Main . Because of the finite amounts of resources at the bottom of the sea, the Kins have evolved to be less trustworthy and open than the Selkes are.

The Kins are fiercely attached to their Kindred Group and The Kindred's Code of Honour is the only law they know and will obey. Because of the competition among tribes for resources and hunting, there exists a lot of infighting between the different Kindreds.

Martial arts and hunting skills are prized above all else and the strongest Kin is usually the head of his/her tribe.
As with the Selkes, the Kins are of both sexes: male and female and will choose their sex later on in life. But unlike the Selkes, the Dark Kins do not enjoy walking among the human settlements.

However, some Kins will wilfully leave Midlake and their tribe if they think there is no place for them
there.
Dark Kins are not the only creatures living in the depths of Midlake. Many sea monsters and creatures make the water and the shore their home. This is why it is so perilous to cross the Midlake especially at certain times of the year.

- The Clouds of Ice and the Gelins

Up above the mighty Towers mountains are eternal clouds of Ice. The Ice Clouds's filaments can be seen on a clear day high in the Globe's atmosphere.

The clouds are home to a magical race of flying Ferian-like creatures, called the The Gelins. Ferians and Gelins have the same ancestry and come originally from the same universe.

The Gelins are able to fly using their colourful back membranes. They are also insensitive to cold. Heat can be a problem for them and they will not be seen in the warmer valleys of the Towers.

Only the Staynes and the Louves are aware of their existence. Some Gelins have been known to live with the Staynes. Gelins stay away from the Louves which they do not trust and find brutish, like all humankind.sf

- The Caves of the Rachans

The Staynes and the Louves are only the last civilizations to make the caves their homes. Before them, came and went older and now extinct people.

The most splendid of them were The Rachans. The last of the Rachans disappeared at the start of the New Era.
Despite the protection of the caves, the Rachans did not survive the cataclysmic events that destroyed most of Alven. Some Rachans left the sanctuary of the caves and headed south ahead of the ash clouds, but none ever came back to the Towers. The caves were left empty for the Louves to inhabit when they arrived in the mountains.

Many tunnels and lesser caves in the southern vales still bear the mark of their remarkable civilization. Up to these days, no one has even been able to decipher the inscriptions written on the tunnel ceilings.

From the drawings on the cave walls, Rachans might have looked like a sentient species of furry hominids. Their fur was kept long over their body and they wore leather armor.
Some of these caves are not habitable because of the dangers present there - they are called the Dead Caves
