The Sanatarium at Crawsythe

Location

The sanatorium is situated in a calm and quiet nook of The Nestdowns, near the wilderness of The Great Towers Range mountains, not too far as well from the cave cities of The Encrors, The Staynes. The building itself is not too far away from the fishing harbour of Crawsythe on the northeastern shore of The Lake of Inner Voices. The sanatorium is not on the lakeshore, but up into one of the valleys of Ben Croh - the highest peak of Alven.

The Sanatorium's specialty is to improve the health of people with respiratory diseases. The air in The Valleys of the Croh are said to be one of the finest in the world.

The Building

The sanatorium is an impressive modern building, constructed in the local pinkish stone, full of glass and stained glass on two floors. There is also alarge terrace on the first floor overlooking the valley. The lakeshore can be seen on a clear day. However, there is often mist and fog in the morning and it gets a fair bit of snow in the winter.

Facilities and Clientele

The sanatorium boasts of the latest baths which function on hot springs pumped from caverns at the back of the complex. It is a place where the powerful and rich send their 'undesirables'. Many wounded soldiers - from The Archive mainly - are also sent there to recover. The staff is competent and well trained, but a few 'nurses' are there to keep an eye on the patients.

Ownership

The place was build and is owned by Mieltee Lowstead   (loosely affiliated to Clan Badgorsen), a widow whose husband was part of The Ambulant Men. At his passing, she inherited a lot of 'illegal' money. Having no children, she decided to build herself a place away from the main drag and the politics of the organization. She also hoped to do some good in the world.

Behind the Scene

Mieltee built the place with the best of intentions, as she had a nephew and niece with respiratory problems (they had come to live with her when her sister passed away), but some of her former relatives have tracked her down and are asking her for 'favours'.

Some 'patients' are sent to the sanatorium by her husband's former associates to recover .. or not as the case might be. Her hands are tied for the moment, and she does not want to know what is going on really. She fears for the safety of her newfound family.

To complicate things, Mieltee has a steward who is Staynes - a mysterious individual she trusts with her life: he saved her life once when she had fallen in the local river in flood. His name is Derlan Magon and he runs the place for her, but he might have another agenda- he could be a spy for the Stayne Ambassador in Highfort or on the lookout for a mystery artefacts in the valley or/and a spiritual quest.

The relationships between some of the wounded soldiers and the Staynes might not be always good - but one or two soldiers get to know Derlanwell, and become friends- during a hunting party the Staynes and the humans shared a strong experience together.
