A Compendium of Nights' Rituals

by Seer Calmsee Doeye of The Sanctuary

Dear Devotees,   Blessed are the nights of our weeks, and may the Lady Brigand watch over you in the light and in the dark.

I am hoping that these humble writings will help the faithful in their daily offerings and supplications to our most sacred Goddesses of the Nights.
In this compendium, you will find some well known Farden traditional rites, offerings, and prayers for the daily worship of the The Divine Hags.
Note: as it is customary, the rites will be at their most potent when performed as the sun sets and the planes of this world become neighbours once more.

Newnight's Rituals

The first night of the week is dedicated to our most holy Goddess Nessa and her twin, Shony.

A weekly offering to Nessa, will ensure your well will not dry up or that its waters are kept pure. If the Goddess finds favour with you, she will also make sure that your crops never lack water in the hot and dry Light Months of the year.

If you live near the coast, pay particular attention to your offerings and prayers to Shony, our Lady of the Seas: she will keep you safe from the storms and quiet the waters.

Rites and Orations for Newnight

As soon as the sun goes down over the horizon, fill a bowl with water from your well or a sacred pool, and throw a few sprigs of an evergreen plant in it.
Pine is a good option for this ritual, but any other plant that does not shed its leaves during the Dark Months will be satisfactory.

Let the twigs float on the surface of the water, and meditate on the pattern they settle in. If you have the divine gift of divination, you will be able to read the leaves, or you might ask your local Seer to interpret them for you if necessary.   As the twigs settle on the water, say this very short oration:
'Lady of the Waters, First Lady of the World, I beseech Thee,
accept my humble offering, and let your life-giving gifts flow generously
through our plane that our world will never tarry.'
If you live on the coast or are about to sail, you will be able to use the same ritual, but make sure, dear Devotee, that you use sea waters instead of land waters in your bowl.

Alternatively, you could bring a cup or a bowl to the ocean filled with wine or another sweet-smelling drink that will please the Sea Maiden.
Pour the drink in the sea and say the following short poem:
Sweet Maiden of the Silent Depth,
I toast thee, and your kind.
Quiet the waves and the storm,
bring me back to my loved ones,
bring me back home.
I am aware of an ancient ritual in the coastal town Denbeith of which I will relate here, but do not preconize.
On the first of Wolftyme, the middle of the Dark Days of the year, men and women of this fishing community, deep themselves naked in the icy waters of the North Sea.

This gesture is meant as an act of purification and although archaic, is reputed to bring strength to tired and aging bodies.

Dear Devotee, I would bring caution to the rituals, and would not recommend it for people with recurrent illnesses of the lungs.   More pages are available in this compendium.
Seel below for the rest of the Nights' Rituals, and may you have a blessed day.
