Scions are a psychic phenomenon found in Humans and predating the The Eagle Assembly. While most of the population is unaware of their existence, there are those who have been touched by the abstract. Sometimes called void or ether born, depending on the effect, Scions are humans whose genetic structured has been altered by either The Void or The Ether. This typically happens at moments of celestial significance where the barriers between the realities are weakest.
The effects of such forces on the genetics of a human have a large variety. Some may never even know their genetics are impacted, while others may experience world-shattering and uncontrollable powers. Feris the Renewer is one of the most famous Scions, whose powers allowed her to network directly with The Orion.
Creatures of The Void and The Ether, sometimes called ghosts, seek out cohorts of Scions to help train them in their powers. The motivations of the ghosts are as abstract as the powers scions exhibit, but often relate to their domains.
In the older days of the empire, Scions were hidden away by The Eagle Assembly and trained to harness the powers as researchers, scientists, and technomancers. In fact, most of the technology crafted in developing The Orion was done by scions. After the rise of the Orion Corporate Council, the Scions were determined a threat to the corporate power structure. Those in power were quickly "removed" and new scions were hunted down for more sinister reasons.
