The Gulf

Beige. A field of light taupe stretching over her vision.   She blinked.   Sand?   When she finally came to, Keira couldn't quite understand what was going on. All she remembered was the storm, barking orders to the crew and trying mostly in vain to repair different parts of the ship as they fought through the wind, the waves, and the pelting sheets of ice cold rain. Then lightning struck one of the masts of The Velvet and it was all over. Chaos finally overtook her usually steadfast crew and all she could hear was screaming as they ran for cover. Wasn't long before the whole damn ship was dragged under the waves. She had said a final prayer, and held her breath as her head was enveloped in the angry ocean.   But now... Sand?   But if this was sand, then what was that hard thing under her? Still not quite wanting to risk moving, she closed her eyes and let her practiced mind work. Very slowly her waterlogged senses kicked back on. She was soaked to the bone, and could still feel the ice cold water in her boots. No, wait. Not in, around. There was something hard, rough, and sturdy underneath her body. She couldn't be sure, but she thought that she recognized that weight. All around her was the sound of what sounded like gulls, and a soft breeze passed over her. Okay that tracked, if there was sand and water, then maybe this was a beach.   Then, the loudest sound she could remember hearing. Louder than thunder, but not as harsh. Her eyes flew open, scanning as best as she could for the source of the noise. Then it came again. She tried to focus in on it, shut the rest of the world out and just listen to the sound. A long drawn out sound, like a honk or a moan. Loud, deep, and yet somehow soft. The moment it passed over her she could feel, almost revitalized. Like a colossal hand passed over her, and in its wake where there was once pain and ache there was an almost instant feeling of warmth and comfort. She realized she had control of her limbs again, her breathing, once ragged and shallow, grew smooth and easy. Slowly she pushed herself up, in that moment realizing she was on the ground. Slowly, she turned to face the sound.   There, in front of her, Virtuoso Keira, captain of the exploring ship Velvet, saw a gigantic, glistening, whale.

Geography

This place which does not quite yet have a name beyond The Gulf, is just that, a large gulf. In this gulf is a collection of islands, ranging from small and mostly sand, to larger with more diversity.   The Gulf is a very tropical place, fine sand, brightly colored plants and flowers, coral of all shapes and sizes, probably some palm trees, that sort of thing.   Because this is a gulf, it is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to discoveries, because this small section of water and islands sits on the coast of a larger continent. What lies on that continent? Who can know for certain?

Fauna & Flora

FLORA:
  • Pretty by the numbers tropical stuff
  • Coral (for sure)
  • Palm trees
  • etc.
  • FAUNA:
  • WHALES which are magical as heck
  • NARWHALS which are magical as heck and also can fly
  • Other than that I do not really know.
  • Natural Resources

The most important resource available on this gulf is magic. These whales and narwhals are incredibly magical beings which are exceedingly rare in any other known part of this world. Their bone, blood, skin, and oil can be used to do incredible things if you are willing/able to kill one, but their energy can also be siphoned as they go about their daily lives, which does no harm to the whale itself, but is much slower. These whales are very powerful, very intelligent, and very potent beings which makes them instantly valuable no matter how you look at them. Be careful though, the people of this land don't take kindly to outsiders who wish to harm these beautiful beasts of The Gulf.   Other than that it's fairly standard stuff. Fruit, grain, and vegetables all able to be farmed, fish and other non magical animals to catch and eat, some minerals and such to be worked and forged. All the usual things native to tropical climates.
