Mechanics & Inner Workings
The illuminaris is an actual glowbell cut from the plant. However, this single glowbell is soaked in an oil rendered down from many of the flowers. This oil causes the flower to glow more brightly, and is a much more vivid amber color.
The Crystalline casing that the illuminaris is surrounded by is an epoxy rather than any real mineral structure. The flower is dipped repeatedly in the fluid until it has a thick outer layer that allows light to pass through while keeping the oil soaked petals inside.
The Glowbell will continue to shine constantly for up to a full season of 100 days. The glowbell is kept in a lantern cage that the flower can be replaced from when needed.
In a rather fortunate happenstance, the oil soaked petals output a constant stream of light until the flower can no longer sustain the effect. In a matter of a few seconds the light extinguishes itself. These light sources do not dim, they only go out.
History
This item was created just before Galus had begun its industrialization. This crystalline glowbell had gained popularity amongst travelers. Several different portable illumination devices were tested, however, some were prohibitively expensive for the average person, or were finicky to maintain.
A hurricane lantern did exist, where the flame was encased in a glass bulbous tube, and consumed any flammable liquid one had on hand. Though, that came with a significant caveat, depending on what you burned, you could overheat the glass bulb and crack it. Causing the flame to be erratic and inconsistent.
Travelers wished to have something they did not need to carry a fuel supply for, was lightweight, and could be bought for an acceptable price. Thus in the year 1189, the Glowbell Illumiaris came into existence out of the Dwarven Nomadic states.
Significance
Highlighted the Dwarves need for efficency as they travelled. Also introduced a very needed quality of life upgrade for the average person.
