"Elk is a bit of an understatement. Fucking monster would be better"
-Hunter in the outer fields of Glaion
These Elk are as aptly put, Giant. These animals stand at about 10ft tall from the shoulders to the ground. They look very similar to their namesake, though a few notable difference stand out. Their eyes face forward and are not on the sides like the normal Elk. Their hooves are also cloven, and splay out to distribute their weight more efficiently. The last point of difference, tends to be the most important, they have a mouthful of sharp, serrated teeth, not to dissimilar to sharks. Yes, these animals are predators. Wanderers tend to not notice the danger of this beast until they notice it is much larger, and it looks at them. It is an unnerving feeling to know, to see the moment, when something starts hunting you.
They typically act like usual Elk, they just never have a herd around them. They are always alone. They like to stand in open fields or just on the edges of forests. While they don't differentiate what prey they take, they typically do hunt much smaller targets. Rabbits and foxes are frequently on the menu for these hunters. Though the few that have seen it, have noted the particular irony of a Giant Elk eating a regular Elk. Travelers are sometimes on the menu, though these beasts are clever enough to know that when they smell metal, they should probably not pick a fight with a traveler. They do frequently target those who are unarmed though.
Not much is known on how they procreate, though it is noted that pairs of the beasts do travel up mountain sides or stream banks, disappear for a while then go their separate ways. The young are indifferentiable from regular Elk until their adult teeth start to come in, and their eyes start moving forward.
While dangerous, hunting these beasts will gain the respect of the locals, and have a certain amount of profit to it. The blood can be sold to Mages as reagents, their hide has a fair price, and their meat (unsurprisingly) does actually taste like Elk. Their bones hold little interest to anyone except farmers or gardeners.

"Fucking monster would be better." Yeah, I agree with that guy. These things sound terrifying.
Whaaaat, hunters that perfectly mimic their prey? Not seeing a threat until it's too late? they're totally not terrifying when I tell you they make a guttural screech at night when they are trying to hear if other hunters are around! I'm glad you like this particular horror in the world, though this article needs some polishing. It was one of the first in the world, and to me, it shows. It's also going to be getting some artwork at some point here.
