Premiered as the top regional facility for those working in medicine, many high profile doctors and scientists took shelter here when the bombs fell. After the door was sealed however, a leak was discovered in the reactor. Although not emitting lethal doses, it would certainly affect the long term health of everyone living in the sealed environment.
Unbeknownst to the dwellers, this was Vault Tec’s plan from the beginning, suggesting that major advances could be made in radiation treatments if the residents were motivated properly. When the Overseer was brought up to speed, she feared an uprising and instead made a hard call. Adding euphoria inducing chems to the common radiation treatments already available kept the populace under control, though it failed to protect them from long term exposure effects.
This deception was eventually uncovered, and any remaining civilities broke down. A vicious hierarchy formed out of the most ruthless members of the Vault, and once the door unsealed again they were unleashed onto the wasteland. Although they moved their main operations to Corvega City, the original dwellers were furious to hear about the attack on their home by the Crawler. Nothing but ruins remain, but many hail this site as the birthplace of a fierce enmity between the two groups.
