The Scions of Ehren

As legend goes there was a human girl named Monica born to a pair of ordinary enough ghoul parents. Becoming something of a spectacle, she soon drew the wrong kind of attention and was captured by slavers. Forced into unspeakable acts, she eventually bore a son who was also quickly sold off before she could leave any kind of impression on the young child.

Monica was a woman of great faith, mercy, and kindness. This drove one slaver to renounce his ties to the organization and escape with the battered woman in tow. When she went to find her son, she soon learned that he had been corrupted by the wasteland. A slaver himself, he captured his own mother and began torturing her for her perceived abandonment during his infancy.

Accounts vary but it is told that Monica remained adamant about saving her boy up until the bitter end. Wracked with grief from his own actions, Ehren descended into an entire decade of madness. He murdered many of his own men, put enough chems in his body to kill a deathclaw, and generally acted in self destructive ways to avoid his pain. In the end he swore himself to abolitionism after a near death experience involving Jet and Med X and continued on that path until his own death at the ripe old age of eighty eight.

Due to the facts being passed down through oral tradition, many of the details may have been changed or embellished over the years. Followers today range from those willing to harbor escaped slaves, to those willing to fight Corvega City itself. They believe that ghouls and humans are one in the same and will someday interbreed to help homo sapiens evolve into a new species that is immune to radiation. Their patron, Saint Ehren the Progenitor is said to have fathered many children that carry the genes necessary for this. To spread his gift to all humanity, the faithful are expected to be, arguably, quite promiscuous. Reproducing is the highest calling to Ehren's followers and is also a great hook for recruiting new members.

Most recently the order has been taken over by a ghoul claiming that becoming a glowing one is something acheivable through faith and meditation. He offers humans a baptism in radiation under his special circumstances, claiming to never have lost a single life to accident. This is performed as a religious rite, and allows them to cast off their earthly ties to vanity so they can live forever as a child of Ehren. Controversial amongst the Syndicate, it allows many wastelanders a chance at a better life and so they accept this invitation with open arms.

Those more interested in freeing slaves, or the bi-weekly orgy, turn a blind eye to this practice, choosing to make the best of the situation instead. Splinter cells have broken off due to the belief that this isn't aligned with the acceptance of who someone is, and not forcing them to permanently change to fit in with the current majority. Scions can be found just about everywhere there are populations of ghouls and humans interacting, although it is usually a subculture and not flaunted out in the open due to risk of persecution.
