The Eden Compound

Just before the bombs fell in 2077, America’s government was evacuated to underground fortresses to weather out the nuclear storm. Tailored to the elite minds of the era, this installation was designed to house those with strong conservative and monotheistic beliefs. Cut off from direct contact with the rest of the Enclave, they were able to transmit and receive satellite messages intermittently during the initial lockdown. Once the Presidential Rig was destroyed on the west coast however, faith in an American resurgence was replaced with a belief that a higher power was needed to lead humanity back out of the dark age.

Over the last two hundred years a new religion has taken shape in the environment and politics underground, a dangerous deviation that puts them in conflict with anyone they encounter on the surface. They now believe that radiation is satanic in nature, a punishment for the wanton destruction and greed of mankind's progenitors. Those unwilling or unable to convert to their lifestyle are labeled as heretics, while anyone with obvious mutations are considered abominations and are treated like demons incarnate.

Although still reliant on several types of power cells to charge their armor and weapons, they have made truly impressive strides towards harvesting clean sustainable energy directly from the ley lines of the planet. Their reactor was shut down fifty years prior, with the area now being used to test technologies that can capture and safely dispose of radioactive particles autonomously. They have also traveled down darker scientific paths, helping develop several reprogrammed strains of FEV to kill mutants on contact. The data from one of these experiments even made its way to the Capitol Wasteland, though what became of it is to anyone's guess.

Mission Statement

The development of technologies to remove human dependence on atomic energy is high priority for the Eden Compound. Using clean renewable energy from natural planetary sources they plan to revolutionize the wasteland under their rule.

Correcting flaws in humanity's gene pool has also eaten a lot of resources over the years. The closest they have come to 'fixing' this problem is a virus designed to kill anyone with corrupted DNA. Although it works perfectly well, it is more likely to annihilate the human race than save it.

Evangelists spread the message of their religion to anyone they consider a 'like-minded individual'. It preaches forgiveness through genetic purity, and rituals often involve dangerous medical procedures to eliminate as much corruption as possible.

Those that venture forth from the compound must be pure not only of body, but of mind as well. Only practicing members of the faith are ever permitted positions of power and tests are considered commonplace to make sure an individual is of sound mind for the trials of the wasteland. Strict in terms of xenophobia against mutations, the religion itself is fairly forgiving of vices and traditional taboos once condemned by pre-war establishments. Believing that pure humans are a chosen people, they allow themselves a few earthly comforts to ease the torment of being the beloved children of God. This 'higher calling' also justifies all acts committed during their holy war to convert or kill anyone they happen to encounter, with slavery and genocide being just a few of their many tools in enacting their will across the Great Dust Bowl.
