Chase Hwang Character in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

Chase Hwang

Chase Hwang was born north of the Mojave. He was raised in a group of nomadic survivors and taught how to thrive in the wastes. They scavenged, hunted, fought off raiders, and helped fellow wastelanders. That proved to be their undoing, however, as they eventually welcomed a group of six strangers into the fold. They turned out to be a small gang of raiders that called themselves the Extinct Ones. They were Jorn, Spike, Vulture, Doobie, Rusty, and Ratchet. While Chase happened to be away on a hunt, the raiders turned on the survivors, slaughtering most of them. Chase had noticed that there were still some missing bodies, meaning the remaining people either escaped or were abducted. Now on his own, Chase decided to pursue the raiders and take revenge. He did his best to track them, but he never caught up with them. He had to take odd jobs frequently to survive, even taking on some mercenary work in the hopes that someone would put the hit on the right raiders. At 20, he found himself in the Mojave when he heard the name ‘Ratchet’ come up in conversation. Sure enough, he spotted the raider alone outside of some ruins near Freeside, tinkering with a rusty taxi cab. He pounced and, after a short tussle, Chase managed to kill Ratchet with his pitchfork. One down, six to go…and it seemed Ratchet left him a wonderful new tool to aid in his pursuit: the surprisingly functional taxi cab. Now the new owner, Chase christened the vehicle as ‘Yellow Jacket’ and has since used it to aid in his mercenary jobs. Unfortunately, he has had virtually no leads on the remaining Extinct Ones. He lingered around the Mojave for a while, enjoying the music that piped in on the cab’s radio as well as the many opportunities that came up. Tensions began to rise in the Mojave, however, as opposing factions began to invade from all sides. Rather than sticking around to get caught in the crossfire, Chase has decided to ditch the Mojave and has found himself in the Great Dust Bowl.
