Crownbearer of Dragonfell

The highest ruler of the Kingdom of Dragonfell.

Requirements

The person must be the Heir of The Crown at the time of the passing of the title, and be an adult.

Appointment

Once the Crownbearer in power dies, chooses to retire, or is discharged from their rank, the Heir of The Crown is crowned Crownbearer. The proceeding ceremony varies depending on the nature of the crowning.

Responsibilities

The Crownbearer must oversee all that happens in the Kingdom of Dragonfell. Every single vassal of the Kingdom is also their vassal. At the Insular Council, the Crownbearer represents Dragonfell, and also presides it. They are also the head of all government organizations, and while they might not administer them, they are the highest ranking member.

Benefits

They have veto power on voting, both for Dragonfell and matters of the Insular Council, but can't enforce authority on sovereignties that are not part of Dragonfell.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

A Crownbearer can be forcibly removed from their position if they are considered too sick to rule, and it was determined that there was no possibility for them to make any recovery. Deep in the Dragonfell laws there is a clause too, that stipulates that the Crownbearer can be revoked of their title if the Heir to The Crown calls to a voting from the nobles of Dragonfell, and wins it unanimously.

History

The title was created on the 3rd of First Month, the year 68 2E, during the foundation of Dragonfell. After defeating the black dragon Fezoh, the people of Blackshore celebrated the achievement by declaring themselves a united force to be reckoned with. Led by a noblewoman of the name Sirân de Melûn, they realized the best way for people to prevail was to stand strong, under one banner. As such, they founded the Kingdom of Dragonfell, and put Sirân in charge, naming her the first Crownbearer of Dragonfell.

Cultural Significance

The Crownbearer is seen as a symbol of power and unity. The crown was forged (metaphorically speaking) with the blood, sweat and tears of every citizen of Blackshore, and as such it is the pride of the city. Through their unity they grew and spread their message across the island now known as Dragonfell. At the top of this alliance, and of this power, sits the Crownbearer, holding on their shoulders the future of unity and strength.

Across the Insular Alliance

Despite not holding a direct power over the other sovereignties in the Alliance, it is undeniable that the Crownbearer is a presence in all political spheres in them. As such, they all have different opinions on them.

Nyhavn

In Nyhavn they don't look kindly to the Crownbearer. The founding population of the island was comprised of the most radical members of Snowvale, who were displeased with the annexation of Snowvale to Dragonfell. Then, when the Alliance was founded, they saw it as an attempt from the Crownbearer to interfere in their new freedom. However, they respect their tradition and upstanding morals, so they have decided to join the Alliance and work with Dragonfell.

Rinascentia

The leaders of Rinascentia hold a great esteem to Dragonfell and the Crownbearer, as they helped them settle. The settlers of Rinascentia were a group of people whose homes had been destroyed in the First War of The Orb, and sailed the seas in search for a new place to call home. The Kingdom of Dragonfell sponsored and supported their growth.

Kawashima

Kawashimans are isolated, and hold no grudge nor particular adoration for the Crownbearer. They understand their position in the hierarchy of the Alliance, and respect their attempt at unity. Nevertheless, they value the little intervention some of them had on the island's growth, while feel distaste for those who were overbearing with their help.
