Harrowgate

Harrowgate is the capital city of the lordship of 'Hotefeld' and has been the seat of House Trevelyan since its founding.
Harrowgate is a small walled city complete with watchtowers, battlements, portcullis gates and a barbican at the city's main gate, as of its last census the city played host to approximately 6,800 inhabitants. Unlike most settlements in Hotefeld, which by and large consist of villages and farmsteads most of which boast thatched buildings and minimal stonework, Harrowgate is a veritable maze of stone in comparison.   The city is roughly separated into wards; The North Ward, which houses both the affluent homes of many merchants and minor nobles as well as Harrowgate Keep, The East Ward, also known as the Trades Ward, hosts both the main barracks for the city's guards and militia as well as the markets and shops operated by the city's traders and craftsmen. The Canal Ward hosts many of the city's taverns, inns, and houses of entertainment, with the most reputable dominating the north side of the district as it runs across the city from the northwest to the southeast running along the River Harrow (a tributary of the River Never) as it runs through the city separating the North and East wards from the South and relatively small Temple Ward. The South Ward is predominantly residential and houses much of Harrowgate's citizenry. The Temple Ward hosts gardens and places of worship for many commonly worshipped deities in the Sword Coast North, however, the Church of Torm holds the most sway.   In recent times the city and the surrounding region has been in turmoil after the disappearance of the Trevelyan family's only legitimate heir, and what was later discovered to be a coup by its close neighbour; House Wulff, which resulted in the death of the family patriarch. The coup was exposed by neighbouring states and presented by House Trevelyan's heir himself, thought until that time to be dead. In the time since, House Wulff has fortified its position and established martial rule over the populace, while House Trevelyan's heir has sought to consolidate his resources and allies in order to move against the occupying House Wulff.
