Hotefeld
The land of rolling hills...
Hotefeld is the ancient seat of the noble House Trevelyan, a region of rolling hills, warm rivers, and wide plains at the foot of Mt. Hotenow, on the eastern border of Neverwinter Wood. Tributaries of the Neverwinter River run across the land; warmed by the nearby Mt. Hotenow these bodies of water never freeze over even in the dead of winter.
Hotefeld exists as a loosely connected group of vassal states united under the Trevelyan banner. The region is known for trade, horses, and soldiering, with the region's horse trade bringing a great deal of their income, indeed it is said that their fondness for horses defines the peoples of Hotefeld, giving rise to a common saying; 'a felder learns to ride before they can walk', as well as a number of derogatory terms for 'felders specifically relating to their fondness for their equine companions.
In recent times the region has been in turmoil after raids from Gnoll tribes resulted in the disappearance of the family's only legitimate heir, and what was later discovered to be a coup by its close neighbour; House Wulff, which resulted in the death of the family patriarch. The coup was exposed by neighbouring states and presented by House Trevelyan's heir himself, thought until that time to be dead.
In the time since, House Wulff has fortified its position and established martial rule over the populace, while House Trevelyan's heir has sought to consolidate his resources and allies in order to move against the occupying House Wulff.
