Rimbauer Voltage

50 years ago a strange scientist and magician, Ghanst Rimbauer discovered a peculiar fact. The energy of spirits and the undead seemed to respond directly to storms, most specifically to lightning. Rimbauer puzzled over ancient tomes, books, and manuscripts, seeking additional information. Rimbauer, an honored member of the Ghemmingtown Ghoulies, sought forbidden texts among the 'Ghoul's Tool's." As a monk of the "Monastic Order of Saint Kellen," he also was able to gain access to some of the works in the Prohibited Collection at the Boddington-Torrance Monastery complex.   Rimbauer poured through books such as Pliney's Guide to the Darkened Realm, Habbershot's Spirit Containment and Neutralization Thereof, and Bloodcraft's The Unseen Realm Speaks of Dreams. He also studied several books on electromagnetism and electricity including Professor Elepond's Lightning, flame, and the Electric Spark. After numerous experiments, including the use of highly conductive metals and apparent meteorites, he uncovered a way to combine heavy water, distilled from the river Ukari, and electric charges produced from rudimentary generators to build a device that could draw and contain spirits and ghosts indefinitely. He called this "The Ghost Vault." His greatest proof of concept took place when he captured a terrible ghast, known as Blackheart, from the Torrance Manse.   Rimbauer's notes were cryptic and difficult to follow. When Rimbauer had died, his friend and companion, Molly Partridge, attempted to recreate the Ghost Vault (the original prototype had been destroyed by a particularly nasty ghost). Although Molly never did get the Ghost Vault functional, her work led to several devices that are commonly used in Beldam for ghost detection and even for spirits to perform two-way communication with the living. This technology is now known as Rimbauer Voltage. It is also used in the production of artificial lamps, metal plating, and even in videoscopic projectors. His additional works are cataloged in the Byronne College of Science, and rumored to have been copied and stored in the Ghemmingtown Ghoulies 'Ghoul's Tools,' copied by a technology that implements his own work on electricity.
