Browning

During the great storm called Nephalatim, during the reign of Grand Vox Habarish, Most Meek, the coastal town of Browning was thoroughly devastated. The town of Browning was founded by a small family of fishermen and sea merchants who came to Beldam during its initial colonization. The family was wealthy from trade, fishing, and shipping along the kingdoms of the east. Corinth Browning established the town of Browning, quickly building a fishing and shipping empire that stretched across much of the eastern coast of Beldam.   When the coastal town was destroyed many years later, little remained of the port. It is believed that 70% of the eastern armada was sunk or severely damages. Fishing and trade with the eastern kingdoms was brought to a halt. A professor from the Zar-al-Anak College near the coastal town of Founder's Vale (10 miles north on the coast from Browning) came to the current Count of Browning, Joran Al Browning, who had sought refuge along with many of his citizens in Founder's Vale, with a unique discovery. The professor, Mikras, had discovered that an herb known along the coast as "Thalomas Weed," had incredible pain-relieving properties. If properly distilled, the weed could be made into an injectable pain-killer or anesthetic for use in surgery or medicine. Mikras warned the Count of the potential for abuse or addiction, but felt the benefits to the severely wounded could not be ignored.   The sirum began to be cultivated by the Count and his scientists soon after they returned to Browning. So great was the demand for this medicine, Browning quickly rebuilt and soon became a major manufacturing town and shipping and fishing soon followed. It is unfortunate, however, that the addictive and mind-altering properties of the Thalomas Weed also created an underground market for it's manufacture and distribution. This found criminal organization developing that continue fighting for this resource today. Several organizations have risen to great wealth and influence based on the trade of the Thalomas sirum and the town of Browning has a cursed reputation as both a center of commerce as well as a den of addicts and criminals.
