The Myrr Confederation

A constant threat to the Empire and to its citizens, the Myrr Confederation is an independent galactic government that follows one guiding principle - the supremacy of the Myrr species and the subjugation of all other species in the galaxy.

History

The Myrr Confederation started as a collection of Myrr nations on their home planet of Zelairre. Having united their entire species under one banner, the Myrr continued to evolve their technology until they, too, invented the hyperspace drive. Upon invention of the hyperspace drive, the Myrr left Zelairre and started to explore and conquer neighboring systems and planets and enslave the indigenous races they found there. Many galactic species still in existence today were once slave races of the Myrr and the Myrr Confederation. Zelairre became a clearinghouse of slaves from various species conquered by the Confederation. The slave trade brought untold riches to the Confederation's coffers, which they used to further explore and enslave more and more systems around them. The Confederation's continued expansion was first blocked by humanity’s own conquest of the stars. On the ocean world of Sargalea, one of the Second Breath’s most famous despots, Aardyman the Terrible, rose to power. His conquest of neighboring systems was swift and brutal. It was inevitable that his nascent empire would clash with the Myrr Confederation. The Myrr, complacent in their belief that no species could threaten their empire, were unprepared for the ferocity of Aardyman’s forces. The Confederation lost several systems before they could fashion a strategic response. The war between Aardyman’s empire and the Myrr Confederation lasted for 8 years before Aardyman himself was killed on a desolate moon by the Myrr’s latest slave army, a Species of reptilian humanoids called Lagarts. The Myrr Confederation never recovered the systems they lost in that war, but instead extended into unknown reaches of the galaxy, towards the Outer Rim.   The final blow to the Myrr Confederation’s expansion was the Lagart uprising within their own ranks. The loss of their most puissant soldiers, coupled with the nascent interstellar government that would later be known as the Republic, dashed the Myrr’s continued imperialist plans. The Myrr Confederation, despite entreaties to do so, never joined the Republic. During the Republic era of the Second Breath, several outpost Confederation worlds chose to secede from the Confederation and join the Republic. In response, the Confederation constrained interstellar travel and outlawed any further Myrr emigration.   Today, the Myrr Confederation stands as an independent collection of approximately 37 systems with heavily controlled borders.

Territories

The Myrr Confederation controls 37 star systems and the habitable planets and moons within them. The Confederation extends from the outskirts of the Inner Rim to the Outer Rim, but the majority of the systems it rules are in the Mid Rim.

Foreign Relations

While there is no official diplomatic relationship that would allow transit from the Empire to the Confederation, there are unofficial pathways that would permit a person to visit the Confederation. Such visits are both rare and extremely restricted, and visitors should expect that they will be under the watchful gaze of the Confederation's military and intelligence agents for the duration of their stay. Tourists are also warned that, as they have no official status within the Confederation, they are not truly protected by their laws. Many a visitor has found themselves suddenly kidnapped and then sold into slavery, with no legal recourse.   Of these visits, the easiest and most popular destination is the Confederation home world of Zelairre. While on Zelairre, while a visitor can expect their movements and actions tracked, so long as they abide by Confederation laws, they will typically not be harmed or enslaved. In an effort to improve their image, Zelairre's secret police will often step in and brutally repel slavers attempting to grab visitors off the streets. The Interior Ministry has also instituted a program whereby they will "buy" any hapless tourists that are enslaved while visiting the capitol planet, and then "free" them, usually putting them on a shuttle with the admonition to leave Confederation space immediately.   The Empire's official stance is that it does not negotiate with the Confederation.  However, it is rumored that the Empire keeps an ambassador on the free moon of Meness Saakul that can meet in secret with a representative of the Confederation.  Slavery is still legal within the Confederation, and Myrr slaver ships will often make “unauthorized” sorties into other systems.  Some star systems or important political figures have back channel connections to repatriate their citizens.
