Sakoyen Masters

For true mastery over the elements of fire, water, earth, and air, one need look no further than the Sakoyen Masters. When it comes to manipulating these natural forces, they have no equal. Sakoyen Masters proudly wear a circular badge with the four stylized elements on it.

Structure

To become a Sakoyen Master, a being must be accepted into one of their academies. Training requires years, as a student will train a full year in each of the elements and pass tests to demonstrate mastery. A fifth year is devoted to combining those powers to truly demonstrate complete authority over the elements and ability to listen to the universe. While a few academies possess teachers that possess perfect mastery in all four elements, most academies concentrate their teaching to one element, two at most, requiring the novice to travel between worlds to finish their training.   Once they have completed their studies and passed their examinations, Sakoyen Masters are welcomed through an elaborate ceremony whereupon they receive their badge and membership into this mystic order.  Afterwards, Sakoyen Masters are at their liberty.  Many find work using their talents on various worlds, while others choose to explore the galaxy for new wisdom.  A small few Sakoyen Masters follow the "Pilgrimage Path", a galactic tour of worlds that possess strong elemental energies and where Alodar Procolon meditated and studied the elements to form his mystic tradition.   The head of the Sakoyen Masters is called the Arch Chancellor, who both leads the order and is the titular head of every academy in the galaxy. The Arch Chancellor is the being who ultimately decides who is admitted for teaching and who graduates. Lists of alumni are kept, and any Master may be contacted for assistance or favors. It is rare that a Sakoyen Master refuses a call from the Arch Chancellor. Rarely the Arch Chancellor can call an Assembly of all Sakoyen Masters. It has not happened in living memory.   Each academy is run by a Chancellor, who runs the day-to-day activities of the school, supervises the teachers, and reports to the Arch Chancellor. They too will call upon an alumnus as needed.

Culture

Sakoyen Masters see themselves as part of a greater whole.  Any Master can call upon another for assistance, although to call regularly is considered very poor form.  Sakoyen Masters know that as alumni, they may be called by the Chancellors of their specific academies, or by the Arch Chancellor, to provide aid and assistance on tasks required by the order.

Public Agenda

Sakoyen Masters believe that by understanding the physical, one can understand every aspect of the universe. A being in complete mastery of the physical realm therefore can commune with and comprehend the energies holding the universe together. As Alodar wrote, “when properly listening, the water will speak and the stones can sing.”

History

Many civilizations have had mystic traditions among their populace that manipulated one or more of the traditional elements of fire, water, earth or air. The Water Speakers of Cala Meervali and Sargalea, the Air Dancers of Mingus III, the Fire Shapers on Xephus Minor, or the Ogri Earthsingers from the Moons of Istvinn are all prime examples of mystical traditions that concentrated their efforts on elemental power.   During the Republic Era of the Second Breath, a mystic named Alodar Procolon began to travel and learn the various traditions of these elemental mystics, and likewise began to gather together a cadre of powerful beings who would also learn each of these techniques together. He called his organization the Sakoyen Masters, based on the ancient Ogri word “sakoy” which translates roughly into “balanced power”.   The mystic tradition proved popular and spread.  At first, each Sakoyen Master attracted a group of students that they would teach, but over time, several Masters would band together to share the teaching of their apprentices.  Alodar Procolon started the first true academy on the primary Moon of Istvinn.  Before Procolon passed away, some ten academies had been formed and were training new students in his tradition of elemental mastery.   As the Republic reached its zenith in power and territory, the Republic Senate invited the then-leader of the Sakoyen Masters, Arch Chancellor Ymper Trymon to establish an academy on Petrion, the capitol world of the Republic.  When the Republic fell and the Empire rose up, the Arch Chancellor at that time petitioned to establish a "premier school" on the new capitol world of Hesperides, while relegating the Petrion Academy to a remedial school for those students who will likely never graduate and become Sakoyen Masters.
