Jack Ravenhill

Jack Ravenhill (a.k.a. 'of-All-Trades')

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

A fairly thin guy, not especially tall, but definitely on the wiry side, not the frail side. Unlike most farmers, he spends an hour or two each day keeping in shape in addition to his labor, and so has the long-distance endurance of an army scout.

Body Features

Fairly average in most respects, perhaps a bit smaller than some of the burly guys in the village. His biggest distinguishing feature is his maroon-red eyes.

Apparel & Accessories

He tends to wear fairly standard laborer's clothes, however they are of decent make. Nothing too shabby, just lived-in.

Mental characteristics

Education

He does not have much in the way of formal training, however, he seems to know how to do a little bit of everything. While he doesn't seem to be stellar at any one thing, he can turn his hand to cabinet making and farming with about the same proficiency that he can towards hunting strange beasts and fermenting beer. It is almost as if instead of spending a 5-year apprenticeship learning a trade he divided 10 years into 4 month increments and tried to learn a little bit of as much as he possibly could. Most of this knowledge is for practical stuff though, although he has great interest in more academic pursuits, he has never had the opportunity to pursue them

Employment

He is self-employed, the only man in the surroundings of Brackish who owns the land his house is built on, because technically it is just outside the limits of the local lord's fief. He and his family farm both crops and livestock, and in the winter months he doubles as a lumberjack/carpenter/shipwright/general handy-man.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Was the first person in living memory to spend the night on Raven Hill and keep his sanity. Now he and his family live there, have a house, and have managed to keep it mostly standing despite the depredations of The Shifting Moutains to the North and the local lord who borders them to the south.

Intellectual Characteristics

Jack's intelligence and natural cunning tends to surprise those from outside the village who meet him, he is not the average country bumpkin. However, he has no formal intellectual training, and most of his mental skills tend towards the practical: bartering, arguing, predicting weather patterns and habits of animals. That sort of thing.

Morality & Philosophy

"Let your 'yes' mean yes and your 'no' mean no." "By any means necessary" is the credo of those who just weren't good enough to succeed in a moral fashion. Willingness to do whatever it takes is not a virtue, but merely a justification for wrongdoing made by lesser men (and women, orcs, elves, selkies, what have you's).

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Just wants to live on his hill with his family, and not be bothered too much. Is willing to take forceful action to remove said bothers, from time to time. If necessary

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Good at most crafts he turns his hand too, but not exceptional at any one. These range from building a house to farming to woodcraft and land navigation to hunting. He also has more experience with armed combat than your average farmer, and while not a hidden master by any means, he can put down a thug or two if he really needs to. Has some military experience, which is noticeable to those who know what they are looking for.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes to create things and solve mysteries. Which is ironic because he can't stand people getting involved in his business, even if the "just want to help".

Virtues & Personality perks

Hardworking, dedicated to learning as much as possible, and prefers to be understated, restrained. Does not go flying off the handle.

Vices & Personality flaws

His philosophy is to believe the best of individuals until the prove otherwise to him directly, which can come back to bite him on occasion. He also tends to commit himself to things without really thinking the consequences through, which can be problematic.

Social

Family Ties

He himself is a bit of an anomaly in the region in that he does not seem to have any family ties, other than the ones through his wife

Social Aptitude

Understated but confident. Likes to keep things simple, and be to the point. When more complicated negotiations are called for his wife usually handles it.

Mannerisms

Likes to effect a bumpkin-ish attitude and mannerisms, and exaggerate his country accent. However, if necessary he can very easily transition to a, if not refined way of speaking, at least solidly middle class without missing a beat.

History

A lot of work still needs to be done on what exactly happened here, but at some point

Wealth & Financial state

Is honestly decently well-off for a farmer. Does not have much in the way have hard cash stored up, but the things that he has he actually owns, including his land. Probably one of the smallest legitimate land-owners in all of The Corner.

Known Languages
He knows the language of the Corner, and Funhouse standard at a minimum. Might just know one or two others, nobody else would really be surprised. But nobody else around him does, so why would he bother to use them?
