Frontier Folk
Some of the settlers in the colonies of the Frontier do not identify as 'Veilan' or 'Yersi'. Sometimes it is because they never actually came from those places - but rather migrated across the continent of the old world. In other cases it is because they are young and never stepped foot in their mother countries. Whatever the reason, the human settlers of the Frontier may often refer to themselves as Frontier Folk.
Naming Traditions
Family names
Some Frontier Folk forgo their Veilan or Yersi names. Instead they may take the name of an exotic animal or plant from the Frontier, for example Salamander or Darkroot, or their profession, such as Ironhammer or Woodchip, as their family names.
Major organizations
Most Frontier Folk as of 1060 are self-proclaimed, and thus seek varying levels of independence from their mother countries. Because the hold of Red Veil and Yersia on the Frontier is so fragile, Frontier Folk are usually considered dissidents, progressives and reformers.
The Free City of Chevry and Qorte house a majority of self-identifying Frontier Folk, which was one of the major factors in their wars of independence.
