Alta

The Lady of the Tides is the primordial goddess of the ocean, sea and water as worshiped by both Elf and more recently the Brides of Batu.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Alta is usually depicted as half woman, half sea beast, or otherwise as a beautiful siren. Her form depends on the context of the depiction, with her beastly form being invoked to during naval war, and her siren form being worshiped within fishing and sailing communities.

Personal history

According to the Brides of Batu, Alta was the second of the Three Ladies of the Realms that Batu courted in his war against the arcane gods of the elves.
At first, in her rage against such a presumptuous being, she threw an army of kraken, sea giants and the very tides against him. Batu defended himself but surrendered peacefully. When he was brought to Alta's underwater court, he begged the goddess for his life, and asked her if there was any boon he could do in order to prove his respect of her.
Alta asked Batu to retrieve a sword from the bottom of the Red Lake which was said could sunder the very earth. She asked him to get it and use to reunite her waters - the Red Lake with the sea. He did so, carving out the southern river running shallowly from the Red Lake. With this feat, he proved his respect and reverence of her, so she agreed to turn her cloak against the elves.
Alta fought the elves alongside her sisters Gaia and Coelle.
