Orks are a strange humanoid race, consisting of equal parts mammal and fungus. This gives them great adaptability and robustness and thus they can be found on many worlds.
They vary wildly in their technological development with small tribes being little more than stone age primatives while other tribes have fully cappable if unreliable space age technology.
Orks lack proper psychics, instead every ork generates a low level psychic field. When combined with other orks' psychic fields this psychic energy produces strange reality altering effects on the technology of the Orks, based upon the collective perception of all Orks. Eg. An Ork pistol (aka a Sluga) will at best not work for any other species and at worst explode due to the internals of the gun being so poorly smithed as to just be a container of loose rounds with a bolt in it. Yet in an Ork's hand will fire reliably merely because the Ork holding it and the Orks around him believe it will.

Genetics and Reproduction
Orks have a unique reproductive method that can almost assure the species survival even to to point of complete extinction. Orks have no genitalia, instead an Ork will release tiny microscopic spores constantly throughout it's life, with large bursts occuring during periods of extreme excitement or upon death. The spores will take root and over the course of a few months (varies depending on nutrients in the soil) a new member of the orkoid race will emerge from the underground "womb".
Growth Rate & Stages
Orks have a radically different process of growth than other species. The growth hormone in Orks is adrenaline, meaning that the more excited an Ork is (either through danger or success) the faster he will grow for a length of time afterwards dependant on the level of excitement and the duration. This means that an Ork that survives a particularly protracted near-death experience will grow massively and become an even greater threat. In the event that the thrill response from the adrenaline is forcefully stopped (say, by a bigger Ork putting an uppity youngster in his place) the Ork's growth rate will be hampered more so than if the surge was allowed fade naturally. This mechanism seems to be an method for bigger Orks to somewhat control who can directly challenge them for leadership by preventing too many Orks from reachinghis size too quickly.
Ecology and Habitats
Orks can live in virtually any environment thanks to their robust nature and versitile reproductive method. Warm wet environments are the most conducive to the speed of an Ork infestation.
Orks use and abuse their environment with little to no foresight about sustainable living Orks will spread and multiply as fast as they can taking over the planet they are on in a matter of months if left unchecked. They slowly terraform planets due to the nature of their biology.

Orks have a few cultural traditions that through the gesalt psychic unconsciousness they share, produces actual effects in the physical universe. Each of these is associated with a colour.
Red - Red things are perceived to move faster by Orks. Many vehicles are crudely painted red to increase their speed.
Blue - Blue things are perceived to be lucky to Orks. Orks (especially The Deathskulls) believe that painting themselves with blue will make them safer in a fight, making bullets miss or hit armour.
Yellow - Yellow things are perceived to be bigger by Orks. Ork Teef (teeth - Ork Currency) are viewed to have more value as they decay and turn yellow. Explosives painted yellow are thought to create bigger explosions as well.
White - White things are perceived to mean death. Bullets and parts of Choppas (Ork Melee weapons) are painted white to make them "extra killy".
Black - Black things are viewed as tougher or more physically resistant by Orks. There is a particularly tough subspecies of Orks refered to a Black Orks due to their skin pigment being so dense as to look almost black. Many Black Orks rise to become Warbosses and lead Ork Waaaagghhs because of their inherant resilience.
Checkered - A checkerboard pattern of black and white is seen as a representation of the favour of Gork and Mork, the eternally squabbling brother-gods of the Orks.
Common Taboos
The doing of any action that is seen as un-Orky. This can be anything from using a gun that doesn't fire loudly to putting in such egregious features into their vehicles as seatbelts.

Common Myths and Legends
Many Orks believe that the universe was created when either Gork or Mork punched the other in the face and carved everything from the resulting dislodged tooth. There is intense disagreement over which deity performed the act and the Orks engage in intense theological debate over the issue.

Some Ork "scholars" reject this theory for a more logical explanation, that all the matter in the universe was fired out of Gork's (or possibly Mork's) personal pistol in an event they call "The Big Dakka".
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Orks wish to fight everything and anything. Despite this outlook they bear no actual hatred of other races. Opponents that put up a stiffer resistance are praised and exemplified by the Orks as the reputation for being able to defeat these opponents greatly raises an Ork's standing in their society.
