Modification Crystals
Crystals that can be attached to equipment for a variety of magical effects, the production of which is a Tinkerer practice first taught by the Exiled Mages of Old. Modification Crystals are made from the Necrodetic Mineral that can be rarely found in Lurzia, Yunka, Synterra, and Alvosh.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Modification crystals can be purchased from Merchatron 37000, found while exploring, or dropped by enemies. These crystals can be attached to weapons, granting perks based on the weapon's Elemental Class.
Standard weapons and weapons that don't have an elemental class are only eligible to equip a lesser modification crystal and receiving a perk from the RNG Perks List.
The process for filling a modification crystal involves killing a single enemy of a certain Challenge Rating (depending on the crystal). A SOL Weapon must deal damage to the aforementioned enemy in order for the modification crystal to be filled. Only SOL Weapons have the ability to equip Modification Crystals of a higher tier than Lesser. Each modification crystal has a capacity for the amount of experience it can store. When a crystal is filled, the next crystal must be equipped in order for a SOL Weapon to continue to gain experience. Likewise, a level 1 SOL Weapon must equip a lesser modification crystal in order to start gaining experience.
If the top modification crystal on a weapon is filled, it can be removed and traded to Merchatron 37000 for an amount of experience equal to the challenge rating of the soul that the crystal holds multiplied by the crystal's "trade-in modifier". (EXP = CR * TIM)
The process is illustrated in the table below.
Crystal Tier | Weapon Level Range | CR required to fill | Experience Capacity | Trade-in Multiplier |
---|---|---|---|---|
Lesser | 0-3 | 1 | 2500 | 25 |
