Wildling Year Celebration

When a Wildling is born, there is a massive celebration among the tribes. The parents and family are showered with offers of support and gifts to help welcome the new child. Because of the constant turmoil in the Wildlands from the tribal warfare, competition, and of course the Legion of Chaos taking up residence in the obsidian mountains, each year a Wildling survives is considered a blessing and met with celebrations. While this may imply that every day, Wildlings are celebrating, most children are born in the springtime so they celebrate together. For the few who are born in off-months, they still have celebrations but they are often smaller and a more muted affair. In the early years, Wildling babies stay with their parents who do an overnight vigil to watch over their child so it survives the night into its birthday. As the child gets older, it begins to hold vigil with its parents until it is old enough to hold vigil on its own, usually by the age of six. Afterward, the day is spent celebrating its survival, typically with food offerings and gifts to help the Wildling in its endeavors. Birthdays are also the day Wildlings sent to Metisiot to train as Muses leave to start their studies. These celebrations typically include lots of eating and drinking, sparring with the people who have birthdays, and hunting challenges. Depending on the ages of the birthday Wildlings, this may also be the time for Wildlings to look into finding mates. It is considered good luck to find your mate during your birthday celebration. It is considered taboo to attack a tribe during a birthday celebration, since all tribes face the same hardships and experience the same joy from surviving the year. However, it is not strictly forbidden and has happened on few occasions. It is most common among tribes that are in the midst of tense hostilities.
