The Grand Harvest

Once per year, the sun shines high enough in the sky that the light reflects perfectly over the landscape, the Wildlings celebrate the Time of the Harvest. Before the Legion of Chaos took residence in the Obsidian Castle, the sunbeams would wash over the land and create a short span of time that was perfectly warmed. The land would be perfectly situated for all Wildlings and food grows fuller and more plentiful. Wildlings spend this time in relative peace (similar to the truces had during the time of birthdays) and their days are spent gathering and reserving food and in celebration. The celebrations begin the moment after the moon moves away from the sun and the light touches the land. The Wildlings wake up and spend the early morning basking in the sunlight and relaxing with family and friends. Once the morning has passed, the Wildlings begin exploring their respective territories and searching for the fruits, nuts, and herbs that have started to grow large and full. The Wildlings do not hunt during this time (as the savage Wildlings also flourish during the Great Harvest) so they sing ballads to their ancestors in celebration. The realm rings with the sound of epics of past Wildlings and their deeds in hunting and war. Wildlings of different tribes will exchange stories as they pass each other in their search for food. While some squabbles occur along borders, elders typically calm the tensions. Ever since the Legion of Chaos took over the castle, the Great Harvest time causes massive droughts and instability to the tribes that live nearest to the Castle. This has led to intense hostilities as the struggling tribes compete with the tribes who still flourish. The area is in constant strife and some of the tribes have resorted to thievery and raiding the other villages, something unheard of during times of peace.
