Scorched Skin

Aptly named by Otano as the “cure to Muses,” Scorched Skin is an indicator that someone has been “cured” of their magic by Scorch or Black Fire. This can either take the form of being unable to use magic out of certain part of the body (e.g. Kumari’s inability to use magic in her left hand after it was enveloped by Scorch) or being completely removed of their ability to use magic in any capacity (e.g. the Swif Muse who worked for the Legion of Chaos who lost his magic to Kumari using Scorch). Scorched Skin itself has no cure and someone who loses their ability to use magic does so forever. Scorched Skin appears on the body as a result of being tainted by Scorch, demonic possession, or Chaos incarnate. It looks like necrotic skin and has no warmth or feeling to it. A limb affected by Scorched Skin is still usable but since there is no feeling, it is difficult to maneuver and requires assimilation. Scorched Skin is connected closely to the powers of Chaos. Using Piercing Light on Scorched Skin causes immense pain. At first, Scorch was only used by a select few of people, including Otano and his family. However, Kumari “permitted” Otano to teach others Scorch as a response to anti-Muse sentiment and to provide a levelled playing field to the constant overpower of Muses over non-Muses. Rates of Scorched Skin have increased but Kumari sees it as a necessary evil to allow Muses and non-Muses to live in a more equal society. Kumari urges Scorch users to only use the power in self-defense. Most of the cases of Scorched Skin appear in Murk City and Kumari has tried to develop a ward for helping those who have been wrongfully afflicted with Scorched Skin. Kumari also tries to work with Piercing Light and other elements of magic to try and find a cure. Type Magical Type Magical
