Elan Bachard

Bachard is not a Zamar name - Elan is, Bachard is name Metisian parent wanted to give A denizen of Murk City. He was born in Murk City to a Metisian and Zamar couple. In his youth, he was frequently accused of arson, burglary, and corruption by his neighbors. As an adult, he operated a general store where he sold various junk and items found around the city. He also sells drugs in the back alley. He was apprehended and imprisoned by the Red Guard for refusing to give them free products. He had been imprisoned for several months before Kumari arrived. He was later freed by Kumari and Otano when they infiltrated the Raven’s castle-prison. Though he was originally skeptical of Kumari’s motives for releasing him and challenging the Raven, he was crucial in convincing the Murk City denizens to listen to Kumari instead of dismissing her outright.. He did not actively participate in the battle of the First Forest due to his lack of both magical and fighting ability. He did offer supplies and support to those who had engaged in the fighting. When Kumari began her decade long campaign to revitalize Murk City, Elan acted as interim mayor, working closely alongside Kumari. He facilitated many of her projects and acted as an intermediary between the denizens of Murk City and Kumari. He also kept Kumari updated on progress occurring throughout the city. Elan passed away peacefully soon after Kumari stepped down as Legionnaire. He was buried at the site of First Forest, the first greenspace in Murk City (where Kumari would later be buried.) A small plague dedicated to him marks the official entrance to the park. Elan is the de facto “mayor” of Murk City, though he is heavily involved in the Revitalization efforts and may assign higher level tasks and missions to the Party. During his earlier years, Elan worked as a scrap metal collector and craftsmen. In order to collect and move the volume of scrap metal, he teamed up with two Wildling Downtrodden Steeds, Marrakash and Rasburu, who would agree to pull his cart in return for shelter and food. As the three of them began to traverse around Murk City and gather scrap, Elan's heart grew heavy for all the people who were suffering. He was especially disheartened by the level of corruption and pain caused by the different gangs, the Muses that supported them, and the Red Guard run by the Black Bear. However, he was only a Metisian and stood absolutely no chance against these organizations. Nor could he rely on his fellow Murk City denizens to organize against the gangs and Red Guard Instead, Elan began to use the small income he made in his scrap business to provide support and aid to his communities. His cart, which he used both as a shop inventory, also offered shelter for battered partners or those being hunted by the gangs or just from others in general. He allows people into the cart under the guise of shopping but provides people with clothing and food as needed. His cart, along with Marrakash and Rasburu, bring joy and comfort to some denizens' lives because it is often the only decent behavior that they experience. He tries to keep his cart as bland as possible as to not rouse the suspicion of the gangs or the Red Guard. While rumors of him have spread, with the amount of carts and Steeds that exist in Murk City, it is difficult to pinpoint which cart is "bringing hope" to others. Some gangs have tried to deceive Elan but he is practiced in avoiding them and discerning genuine people seeking help. He has also gathered the support of his customers who help protect and hide him.
