Nar Ethnicity in The Fourth Age of Tel | World Anvil

Nar

The Nar are the indigenous humans of the Aerisca Borealis coastal region. They are a handsome, dark-eyed and dark-haired people with tan complexions. Having once had an ancient and powerful empire of their own that rivaled Rexa, they still display the pride and warrior spirit of that bygone age of glory. A long history of political and religious conflict between the Rexan and Nar people has caused friction among the communities of the Aeriscan League, with many Nar harboring resent towards the Rexans whom they view as haughty interlopers on the land that is the Nar's birthright.

The Nar language is part of the same language family as Kharadi, due to a long history of cultural exchange between the Nar and the Ghamodim of Kharad.

Culture and cultural heritage

The Nar once worshiped their own pantheon of gods, many of whom demanded Nar's children as sacrifices. As horrific as the contemplation of child sacrifice was, the Nar did so willingly as their gods granted their nation great power. This ended with the Rexan conquest, as the Rexans found such sacrifice to be abhorrent and most Nar believed their gods had failed them. The consequence of this is that most Nar only worship their nature gods today; though there are always rumors of Nar communities worshiping their old gods in secret.
