Gaja Species in The Fourth Age of Tel | World Anvil

Gaja

A sentient elephantoid race, the Gaja (Singular: Gaj) are endemic to Dhenia, where they have built a civilization on par with both the Alvi and the other sentient races present in the sub-continent. Towering over most sentients at almost eight feet in height, the Gaja are feared all over Tel for their natural martial prowess. However, Gaja are also known as a race of wise and thoughtful philosophers and priests.

Basic Information

Dietary Needs and Habits

Gaja are herbivores that require a great deal of sustenance on a daily basis, due to their large size.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Collectively, Gaja are as intelligent as other sapients, with many Gaja attracted to cerebral endeavors, such as the study of Philosophia Arcana or military strategy and tactics.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

The heart of Gaja civilization is centered in the Mahagajadesha Kingdom, which is situated in the northeast of Dhenia.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

As a long-lived, intelligent species that displays a reverence for nature and a predilection for philosophy, the Gaja find they have much in common with the Alvi of Dhenia and Xian. It is not surprising, then, that relations between the two races have historically been cordial. Similarly, the pragmatism and materialism that is characteristic of much of the Kazma of the Vamana culture has caused relations between them and the Gaja to be often strained. Likewise, the Gaja often view Humans with distrust, as the expansion of Human civilization often comes at the cost of despoiling the primeval forests the Gaja feel obligated to protect.
