Clan Influence in The Fourth Age of Tel | World Anvil

Clan Influence

Clans

In the World of Tel campaign setting, player characters that are either Oameni, Nanoi, or a Barbarian of any race begin play as members of a clan. The particulars of the clan are developed cooperatively between the player and DM. Clan membership brings with it both privileges and obligations. As characters of these backgrounds earn fame and fortune through adventure, they also acquire greater levels of influence within their clans.

Earning Influence Points

There are several ways player characters can earn influence points (IP). The primary way is through adventure; characters are awarded IP at a rate of 1 IP per 2 experience points earned. This reflects the influence characters gain within their clans through the renown they gain from fighting monsters, discovering treasure, and other feats of heroism. Additionally, characters may be awarded IP through role-play. As per the DM's judgement, when characters exercise the powers of their clan standing or when they perform meritorious deeds that further the interests of the clan. Finally, characters may gain clan influence by contributing treasure to their individual clans' hordes; characters are awarded 1/10th of the treasure's value in GP in influence points. IP is always awarded at the end of an adventure during otium; if the party elects to "engage in Rodomontade," then the +5/+10 bonus also applies to any IP awarded as well.

If characters elect to engage in actions that harm their clan, they may actually lose influence points, based on the DM's ruling.

Benefits of Clan Standing

Favors and Loans

Loans given must be repayed by the start of the next adventure or the amount of the loan in GP is subtracted from the character's IP.

Barbarian Hordes

Barbarian characters do not receive the ability to request loans from the clan hoard. Instead, once per adventure, they can summon their fellow clan members for an outdoor military engagement. The summoned clan members are considered to be 'mercenaries' as per the Core Rules. The number of clan warriors summoned is equivalent to the mercenary cost in GP that one can request from his or her clan per the player character's level of clan standing.
